I am interested in adding an EV button to my 2006 Prius. Will the kits for 2004-2005 work on the 2006? I hope the wiring has not been changed for 2006, which would allow the 2004-2005 kits to work.

Haven't heard of anyone trying it yet.

Why don't you read my article in the Knowledge base and buy a little momentary switch and try it out. If it works you can go with the kit and report back for others.

Let me add that I'd be suprised if it doesn't work. But it's not impossible that Toyota could decide to alter the ECU enough to prevent the possiblility of adding an EV button on the NA cars.

We will know soon enough. I bought the real EV button. They are installing it at work next week.

Hey AlphaTeam, that will be nice! Let us know how it goes with the EV kit installation on your 2006!

My car has not arrived yet (scheduled for Jan 7th-10th). I am thinking about ordering the EV kit before my car arrives.

Hi Benny, the Prius is sold in Japan and Europe with the EV button. North America does not get the button, but the wiring is there. Many people on PriusChat have added the button manually. The button enables the car to run on electric-only power for about a mile or two if speed and battery charge are within certain limits. It's great for short trips or the end of a long trip. You can do a search on PriusChat for EV Mode or EV Button and you will find some articles to read.

Hey, AlphaTeam! Let me know if your mod works! I'm too chicken to try it first, but I'm eager to have someone else try it and say, "Yeah, it works!". Then I'll do it, too.

    Thanks

I just installed the Coastal EV kit on my 2006 Prius! EV mode is so cool! B)
At first I thought it would not work, then I tried one more time to be sure that pin 27 was seated deeper into the plug. I used a super tiny screwdriver (like the kind used on watches) to press the wire deep into the socket. Presto! EV Mode! Hurray!

:D That's exactly the news I wanted to hear!!

I SO can't wait until my button comes!

I ordered the stock button. I'm still waffling a little bit, though... the stealthy aspect of the Coastal mod certainly could make it easier to get warranty work done... Nah! I want the button. B)

Confused... Did you manage to find the *real* EV button that fits the 2006? I hear the button would need to be a different size than earlier models. Anybod know a source for "the button" that'll fit the '06? Might as well get that all ordered while I wait for my car!

I'm never really sure how these rumors get started regarding voided warranty. Your warranty cannot be voided unless whatever trouble you're having (to be asking for warranty work) can be proven to have been caused by the modification. You can do any mod you want if it does not screw up anything else... and the EV button is something that was in the original design of the car! Honestly, there are laws protecting consumers from any warranty voiding... unless the modification screws something up. No worries.

I want the button to... where do we get the one for the '06?

I realize that this is not the question at hand, but I want to take this opportunity to remind everyone. . .
