The recall notice states it could take 5 hours or more to get this done. Taking my v in for its first service and recall taken care of so I wanted to check to see if anyone has gotten this done and how long did it take.

I had it done yesterday. It took less than 3 hours.

I had it done a couple of days ago and it just took a couple of hours once they got the part. It took two trips to the dealer - they first had to determine whether a fix was required.

Had mine done last week, done in less than 2 hours! Thought I would take a look under there this weekend and discovered, when installing a Rude person's mid chassis brace, that one bolt was missing from the oem brace, and the hole stripped! So, it takes less time when you don't have to replace all the bolts!

I'd be interested to know if people who have had the recall experience any drop in fuel economy as a result.

The same recall applies to the Highlander Hybrid, but it's listed as a 9 hour repair. Perhaps unjustified, but I'm a bit concerned they will mess up something in the process. I'm pretty happy with the fuel economy so far.

The recall was issued to correct a potential leak and shutdown of the vehicle. So, reduction in MPG is NOT an issue to me. If you're worried about a MPG issue, just don't drive, and you won't be spending any money on gas.

Sure, if that's an option for you, that's great. Personally, if I have a major repair done, I'd like to know they do it right, such that everything works correctly after the fix, just as before. I see no harm in asking others if they had any issues with their service. The thing about knowing in advance is that it could be something you can discuss with the service manager to make sure they don't make the same mistake.

Fuel economy is something pretty easily measured and also a major reason most people buy hybrids in the first place. So, yes, I am interested to know if anyone has noticed a drop and if they found the cause of the issue.

Thanks for all the posts. I received the notice only a few days ago and it says I have until year 2015! Anyway at first I thought I would wait because I want this to be a routine repair for the mechanic since it is the 5 hour repair so they will get used to the procedure. Now I know it can only be 2 hours so I will take mine in at 5000 services or 6 months.

You know as well as I do, Tanasit, that corporations don't do anything that cost them money are reduce their bottom line, unless they have to.

The downside of not doint the recall would be a leak in the valve, the draining of the coolant in the system that cools the engine and shutdown of the vehicle somewhere on the side of the road.

While Toyota will pay for the reoad service and all of the repairs, the possibility of this happening to my own vehicle is something that I would not like to chance. I had mine done at the first opportunity.

    My thoughts,

I had mine done along with its 5K service and first oil change. At first the tech told the service rep it would only take about an hour but it ended up being about 3 hours. I have not had any drop in MPG either and I did not expect one. Thanks for the replies folks.

Had mine done 2 weeks ago and everything went great. I dropped it off, expecting not to get it till the next day, but they called me 2 hours later and said it was done.

I figure that I will wait until my 10K checkup & oil change & then have it done.

Getting a good technician, unfortunately, is like a "crap shoot."

Since mine was the first one done by my dealer, they had the most experience technician trained in servicing the Prius do it. I saw him "religiously" reading the instructions and he took his time to do it right.

Then, again, a technicia, who has 10 years of experience, could have had 10 years of his "first day" of experience over and over again for 10 years.

Mine was done this morning. They began work shortly before 8 am..and at 9:10, my phone beeped when bluetooth connected as my car was driven up to the customer waiting area to be picked up. All told, it took less than 90 minutes!

I took my 2012 prius V in for the recall expecting 5 hours and it only tookk an hour or so. But prior to this , for the first 5163 miles I was averaging 47 MPG on each tank of gas. I have filled up twice since then and my average for each tnk was 42 MPG. Something changed and it is not the way i drive the car. This is not just coincidence. I love my car and I did buy it, at least partly, because of mileage. But I just lost about 11%. Has anyone else had this experience.

Had my recall done a few weeks ago. Before the repair I was getting 50+ mpg, the first tank after I got about 47. The next back to 50+. On my 3rd tank since the repair and I'm hovering around 50+ again.

Had mine done at the end of May and have taken 2 Spokane to Seattle trips along with the usual amount of local commutes. No noticeable change in mpg usage. If anything my highway mileage may be slightly better.

You got that right. My service writer was great but the tech took 4+ hours to do the work. Now I have an intermittant rattle from somewhere in the rear. Being intermittant, I couldn't get the rattle to rattle when the service writer was in the car.

    Fuel economy is unaffected, though.

UPDATE: I took it back to the dealer for the rattle. Turns out the rear cross bar was torqued to spec, but needed to be torqued just a bit more. No more rattles means blissful silence again.
