I am trying to install my trusty V-1 and can't find an EASY way to get to 12v for the power. My Prius has only the standard night day mirror so I can't get power there. Unless I go through the firewall to the fusebox like I did for the fogs I'm at a standstill.

I see the 12v cigarette lighter plug on the console but can't seem to see an easy way to get at that feed either. I was wondering if I can get 12v from the overhead courtesy lights but again, I can't see how that thing comes off the roof panel. It seems to be very tight and I don't want to break it.

Yes I have searched and not found any one way that appeals to me.

You can pull off the "A" pillar plastic and run a cable in there. You will have to pull the door seal off along the "A" pillar but it comes off easily and goes back easily. Be careful, there is an airbag in there. Keep the cable -behind- the airbag or beside it but closer to the metal. You can then run the cable -under- the edge of the door seal to get to the bottom of the dash. You can run that cable at the bottom of the dash to plug into the accessory power outlet at the bottom of the dash. From the "A" pillar to the centre of the car you're on your own. I did one with a V1 where I clipped it on the passenger visor, so the cable hid behind the visor. You do see it from the pillar to the visor though.

    Hi jdc2005!

Wow thanks for that information and all the photos: great stuff that! The steps 1 & 2 are the same that are used to install the fog light connection. At least you didn't take off the "A" pillar trim, I've always installed my V-1's the same way you did, on cars that have the fuse box on the driver's side kick panel. No worries now thanks again!

Went past a State Cop yesterday with a radar gun in his hand, sitting under a bridge around a blind corner. That weasel! Good thing I was only going the limit since I had no V-1 installed yet. Makes me feel like I am driving naked. Even if I am not speeding I like to know where the cops are hiding. Here in Pa. the only ones allowed the use of radar are the state cops, local yokels can't have it. So they use Vascar, or Accutrac or Enradd, the latter of the 3 being the most pervasive.

    Again thanks!

I wonder if you have noticed this behavior?

Now that the V-1 is all wired in and connected to the light blue wire there is a problem. The only time I can use the V-1 is when it is already turned ON when I power up the car. If I have it OFF and try and turn it on while driving it sits there and buzzes and all the lights and LEDS come on at the same time. Even with the V-1 turned ON and me starting the car IE: READY, it still blinks off and on at least 3 to 4 times before it settles down and stays ON. Once it's OFF it's off until I shut down the car and restart it.

I am beginning to wonder if the mysterious light blue wire is a good choice for power for the V-1. Does anyone know what it is connected to and what it powers? It's almost as if there isn't a pure 12v at that wire. If the V-1 was connected to the fuse block I'm sure this problem wouldn't exist, I have never seen it before in any of the other car's it was used in.

    Thank you, :D
