lets hope you dont have kids cupcake, because they'll ruin those nice leather seats.

    KIDS + LEATHER = BAD :p

Im not that excited about the idea of a reverse cam, probably wouldnt use it much. Would like the screen to be tv and dvd compatibe :)

    G'day all!
Yeah it's been a while been really busy. Looking into self managed super and a number of other things. Well my current lease finishes in NOV '06 considering continuing because with the tax bracket going up to 120k I'd have to make 150k for it to be all worthwhile. Plus a likey my car very much and I DON"T like leather, its slippery, high maintenance and sweaty in our hot OZ climate, last 2 cars had leather iick!

Yeah, was about to buy a sensor/camera pack today on eBay

    http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi...mMakeTrack=true

but $200! and I assumed the reverse beeping could be disabled as I tried the screen easter egg hack and that worked!

have you got the link to the forum with the cam mod? I have the PDF with the pin outs and another with a link to converters.tv.

I didn't want to try the disable beep mod because I'm not sure if I can re enable if it doesn't work. I do have some pics but it's on an SD card that I can't easily read.

I'm sure in the not too distant future they will be releasing a hybrid version of the Lexus IS250 which is a sleek machine. My sister is buying one (4 month waiting list)

I'm with you at this point in time the only alternative to a prius is another prius, other cars are so 19th century!, the new i-tech with leather is a push up market and in my mind is achnowledgment from toyota that there isn't an alternative.

How about the acceleration?, I've embarrassed a few be spoilered 4cyl youth coupes!
I'm also someone who CHOSE a Prius over the normal cars we buy at much higher price points.

You would never do without it my brother works for Faord and had a territory with reverse cam and it is soooo much easier to maneuver that thing.

I had reverse sensors on my previous car and they were fantastic, it was a combination of that the fact that the prius beeps in reverse and the split window which just hides the top of an mx5 that had me back into that little car when I first got it.

Love all reversing aids I concentrate driving skill on going forward not backwards

Here is the link to the rear camera installation post.... http://priuschat.com/index.php?act=Attach&type=post&id=952
If you don't want leather, you can always save $10k and buy a base model, then use an aftermarket GPS.
Re: the reverse beeper. I tried to disable mine following the posted directions, but it does not work on an OZ Prius. BUGGER!

Regarding the Lexus hybrids that Cupcake was referring to....we will see a Hybrid version of the GS350 in February (not the IS model), followed later in the year by a Hybrid version of the RX330 4WD, called the RX400H. No word yet on Camry Hybrids, but we won't see a new model Camry until 2007...maybe then.

    Sleeka.

    G'day Sleeka
Hate the leather but safety is important and you can't get VSC on the base, also I used a navman GPS on my previous cars and they aren't as good as the in car system. The prius system is a hybrid system full details on Denso Australai's site
    http://www.denso.com.au/products/aftermark...t_hybrid_system
That means when the satellite signal is lost (happens a lot in Melbourne CBD) it uses speed and wheel angle against the last know position.

Unable to diable reverse beep D'OH! camera it is

had a look at my accountant's newsletter we only go to $95K max tax next year so new prius on the cards

    Hi Group.
Got my first scratch on a door recently and decided that something had to be done about this vunerability. So $33 for some body mould from the Super Cheap Auto store nearby, some masking tape and less than an hour's work produced this result.
I used the 13" front / 13.75" rear alignment that our US cousins mention in their thread on body protection and I think it looks rather neat!.
The body mould comes in a 6 meter pack, so I did the rear bumper as well for an encore!

    Hi Terry.
Looks good, and the bumper is protected for good measure.
I see you took the photo on Melbourne's fine day?

    Sleeka.

Can you tell me how you used the masking tape - was it for alignment purposes?

Also, what is the 13" and 13.75" alignment measured from?

Have a look at the other thread on this site here where there is a discussion about bulk buying prius body moulding.
Those ones are specifically made for the prius and match the paint colour.
I did not like the wait to import them or the price which is around US$120, so I went for the generic type available from the local auto shop close by.
The masking tape is used as a guide line. By sticking one end on a measured mark on the door and holding tension on the tape as you place the other end on the other mark you get a nice straight line. The moulding is too heavy and floppy and will sag badly if you try to do the same with it. However, it is quite easy to lay it down straight if you stick down only about 10 cms at a time following the tape as a guide. Not hard to do, but you have to get it right the first time!
The measurements are taken from the bottom edge of the doors: 13" at the front of the front door and 13.75" at the rear of the rear door. This matches the line of the indent in the lower part of the doors. There is a taper in the shape of the doors which is not immediately obvious until you start measuring.
Also, if you are considering placing moulding on the rear bumper like I did, you need to depart from the angle of the panel as you come around the corner, and come up slightly. Otherwise the ends point down and do not match the line of the door mouldings. Using the masking tape allows you to eyeball the lines and get everything satisfactory before sticking on the moulding.
It is not a difficult job to do if you take your time. I had never done this before and I am very happy with the results. I don't feel so anxious about shopping centre car parks now! :)

    Hey Norman,

did you buy US sheepskins in the end?

I checked out the prices and after shipping and any other costs would be more than buying from Wild Ram ($814 pr custom tailored) locally.

Welcome to another enlightened owner! Enjoy your Prius, and the site.
Look out for a Prius invasion down there soon...Toyota is using a heap of Prius and Tarago Hybrids for corporate transport during the Commonwealth Games in March.

Is the 2006 Blue the same or different to the 2005? I like the new dash and door trim finish on the 2006...certainly not as prone to scratching as the previous finish.

    Regards,
    Sleeka.

    Hello,

Just joined the forums. I live in Brisbane and I've been looking at info on the 1st gen Prius. I'm thinking of importing one from Japan...

I haven't been able to find any information on the 1st gen or any Australian Prius sites at all. Any help appreciated.

G'day, Dan. Welcome to another Brisbaneite!

There is a Prius car yard in Brisbane which sells only 1st generation Prius at Coorparoo...on Old Cleveland Rd, inbound from the intersection of Cavendish Rd.
They normally have around 15-20 cars on display...I'm pretty sure they are Japanese imports as they have different pieces of trim and lenses etc to ours. Might be worth a look if you are after one.

There is an Australian Prius site at http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/australian-prius/

    Hope that helps.

    Regards,
    Sleeka.
