Sprint and Bluetooth

I found the forum with the express purpose of figuring out how to get my LG-325 to work with my 2005 Prius. I entered the passkey and got "connected". Then I punched in a phone number and hit the correct button and got a window that says "Caution: Check Mobile phone" or some such. Doesn't dial the number.
A second question: on p 110 of my manual it says "Leave the Bluetooth phone on the place where 'Blue' indication is displayed."
I have no idea where that "place" is.

 

I am replying to my own message of Dec 24. The next day I got in and started to drive and lo-and-behold the phone worked. I think sitting in my garage with power on (enough to set up the phone) for some reason it would not "send" my phone number (would not dial). When the car was truly on it then would send and works fine. I can leave my phone in my pocket or whereever and it works fine.

 

HI just got the Samsung 920 The phone came with little charge so I got it to work for one bluetooth call then nothing ,the phone keep rebooting .I will give it a full charge tonight and see tomorrow. I am hoping that is just needs a full charge. I guess having bluetooth on puts a drain on the battery. I was wondering if any one else has the 920 and having good or bad luck with it, bluetooth wise and the Prius? I was going to get the 940 but I did not feel to comfortable with the screen swivle.

 

The only issue I have with my 940 is I have to 'reboot' my phone (shut off/on) every 5 or 6 hours because my picture mail just seems to stall and won't send. ;/

 

Hey guys I just got the new Razor phone from sprint and the darn thing dosent completley work with the BT. I cant seem to download my phone book. Are there other things that are suppose to work from these BT phones to the car?

The phone I got is a samsung MMA900 looks good but thats it.

Can anyone help?

 

Most phones will apparently do the hands-free stuff. However, to get the compatibility with your address book contacts, your phone needs the OBEX protocol enabled (or it's more current counterpart, I believe). If you glance through this thread -- I know it's getting long -- look for posts by Vagabond. He's our local Sprint Guru and has posted which phones in the Samsung 900 series are compatible at this point.

My A940 works great! (except I have to push contacts one at a time)

 

There was an update to fix this. Check your manual on how to do Firmware over the air. It should be Menu -> Settings -> Update Phone Software.

Make sure the phone has a good charge before you do this.

 

The bluetooth is not quite the same as the 900 or the 940; the only published change I can find is they used a slightly different OBEX profile and the phone does not support Mass Storage, but neither should effect your experience. That said, I don't know if it suffers the same bugs as for Bluetooth as the 900 or the 940. Officially the Prius is not supported yet.

You can't download your phone book. Well, you can but it's one at a time and it's hit and miss.

 

I can't get a firm date on the update. A update to some other features to the phone was just released a few days ago (To updateL Menu -> Settings -> Update Phone Software)
and with the notes for it it was added another update will be released very soon and I since the other major issues with the phone have been addressed I expect this next one will be a bluetooth update. I'm hoping that it will be out by the end of Jan, feb at the latest. They are working very very hard on the 900.

And the 940 looks to be phased out soon as well.

thanks for your useful info on the A900. I just got the phone today and tried it with my 2006 prius. While I can definitely use the phone with the car, I get the problems described in this thread i.e. false incoming phone calls and trouble auto-connecting.

I have 30 days to return the A900. My question to you is do you think Sprint/Samsung will resolve this issue. I have no problem waiting 1-2 months, but I don't want to be stuck with the A900 if it will never be fixed.

Also, does the A940 definitely work with the prius? if we are unsure of whether the A900 will ever work, then it may make sense to buy the A940 while they are still available.

They will fix it. It's pretty much un-useable with alot of cars and headsets, and they know it. I will post any expected release days when I get it.

The 940 works good. It sometimes will reboot by itself when paired to the car, but that's it.

I too am in the market for a good 'SprintPCS' bluetooth phone for my 2005 Prius.

The a900 is not that attractive since you and others here are advising that it does not pass the bluetooth operational test with the Prius. Also killing the a900 is the fact that Radio Shack is currently giving away the RAZR V3 for just $30 after rebates. However, Cingular coverage SUCKS in my area so that's a bust.

Anyway, I like both the a920 and a940 since they can double as an MP3 player. If I consider the cost of purchasing a separate MP3 player, these two phones become very attractive since all I'd need to add is a 512mg SD card and a cassette tape adapter. The Treo and PPC6700 are too BIG, and have features that I probably would never use.

Anyway, is Spint is going to drop the a920 soon? I noticed that new customers are now eligible to get it for a whopping $200 off vice the traditional $150.

One curious question on the a940; Does the Business Card Scan feature using the camera really WORK? That feature is way too wild to believe in! B)

Just as a note, there are some Power Vision issues with the 940... namely the stalling of sending picture mail and the request of proxy information when navigating to sites that have a secure login...

A firmware update has supposedly been in the works, but news has died out as of late. Since I'm an avid popug.com poster, both issues are irksome.

GSM phones (Cingular/T-mobile) will allways be cheeper than CDMA (Sprint/Verizon) Larger world market.

Not SD. All samsungs use Transflash; the card is tieny-tiny and not quite as cheep. It's up for grabs if the phones can handle anything bigger than 1/2 a gig when they're finally developed.

No, the 920 is going to be around for a long time I think. It's a damn respectable phone that I think will be a steady seller. They just dropped the price since there really does need to be cheeper and so it looks like a better deal.

Yes, it works quite well. OCR (Optical Character Recognition) has been around for a long long time. It's not perfect, but it's a nice feature. It takes a while to use, so it's not too much of a time saver.

 

According to PCSIntel, both the a900 and a920 firmware were recently updated. With this new firmware installed, is either one of these phones now compatible with the Toyota Prius built in Bluetooth handsfree feature?

I'm guessing it won’t since from my research, Cell Phone manufacturers appear to be intentionally making their cell phones incompatible with what the car manufactures are incorporating in their cars. I believe it is an attempt to increase their after market car kit sales! The reason for my logic is the fact that the Palm Treo appears to be a very compatible cell phone for the Prius, but since Palm does not manufacture an aftermarket car kit, that makes perfect sense to me. Not to mention, that it cannot be that hard in this day and age to have all the profiles and protocol handshaking required to make these things work together.

I just wish that all the federal and state agencies that have passed laws requiring the use of HandsFree operation of cell phones in our cars on the roadway, take court action against all this incompatibility craziness!

I have a sprint account with two lines. Have upgraded on both lines and not been charged any activation fees since the original account was set up 4 years ago. I believe the fees only apply to new lines.

 

First of all, take anything the leader of that site says with a very, very large grain of salt.

Yes, the samsungs will be fixed. Samsung is a good phone maker, but they can never release a phone without a bunch of bugs inside of it. This is another phone with their tell-tale signs on it. The current firmware release was for fixing picturemail issues and menu slowdown on the 900.

As to your theory, I can't think of another phone in recent history that has the issues these samsungs have. The only place Samsung sells a car kit with their name on it is on their website, and then it's buried at the bottom of the lists. Considering the very tiny ammount of cars that have been sold with BT kits inside of them, it doesn't make any sense to do this intentionally. One thing that would make your theory solid is if other brand new samsungs for the other carriers were doing the same thing, which they are not.
