one place has a 90k mile 2005, navigation package + backup camera, slight cosmetic damage but clean carfax that negotiated from $13500 to $13000 easily but held fast there. They said it had a battery charging problem that's been fixed.

Another place has an off-lease 2009 with 45k miles for $20k, and negotiated down to $18.5k.

Both are sold from Toyota dealerships in norcal. Does either sound reasonable? They're both well above KBB and what it looks like people are trading in for, based on pricehub, but Priuses do seem to be more expensive in norcal.

    Hi There!

Just as a point of reference: I jsut bough a genII (2007) Prius from a Toyota dealership about 2 weeks ago. It was a CPO that came with the standard 7years/100k powertrain, 12 month bumper to bumper, and 150k on the battery warranties. I got it for 17k out the door. In addition, I got their (I am not sure until when) special financing on all CPO prius' for 2.9% apr (60 months) for Tier 1 + customers. Also, they threw in 1 year of free maintenance (including comp car washes).

Long story short, they started with an asking price also above KBB. Print the KBB, show it to them, and they will likely beat it or match it (That is what they did in my case).

Good luck on your purchase! I am happy with mine! I am averging 55.7 MPG after 2 weeks!

    Best wishes

    -Doni

Out of state OTD comparisons are impossible as we don't know your taxes & fees. The mileage looks reasonable. Verify it is a Touring. All have fog lights & HID headlights. There is a thread with pix showing what to look for in the suspension. What are the options? You can't compare the price of a 2 to the price of a 6.

    Package 2--single CD
    Package 3--add 6 disc CD
Package 4--there is NO Package 4
    Package 5--add nav
    Package 6--add leather

Historically the Prius suffers from high resell value so for many years it didn't make sense to buy used when you could find new.

What do you expect to pay for a car? For a bit more you can buy a new Malibu.

the Prius sells for above price on the either the east or west coast, but in the middle of the country we get a much better deal. gas prices were supposed to hit $5/gallon this summer, if that was the case it certainly would justify a higher price but with gas prices significantly below $4/gallon the buyer should have the upper hand. Why would you buy from a dealer when you can buy from a private individual? The seller would get a lot more than trading it in and the buyer saves a bunch over a dealership? Why throw money at a middle man for the same vehicle?

BISCO, I feel badly for you. As a 'newbie, I need an explanation as to why YOU feel you didn't make much ?
Let me put it this way: I'm shopping for this 'dream machine" and meet the amiable, overtly friendly BISCO who's selling his very clean looking & clean carFax Prius . . .it's out of basic warrenty AND it has 94,000 (that's 6K short) of being on my own if & when that HV goes south.
How do I know someone in your family 1)Did NOT try to jump start another car; 2)Did NOT run out of gas; 3)or, made a YouTube Video and showed the world he can run miles & miles (I'm describing a video i did see) on battery alone thusly almost fully draining the HV ????
Either you or a vet of this group direct me to some credible posts that would ease my pain as to what to expect to pay. Right now, w/ all the rain here in florida, my roof will be taking $ I thought i had for a prius. So, an older Gen II seems more palitable. Thanks for your time. DJ imOCD4a_prius

Looks like I got a good deal. The small lot I went to had two, an 05 and an 07. The 05 had fewer miles and Bluetooth/Nav but was pretty ratty in and out. The 07 had fewer features and 137K miles but was really nice.

The real kicker for me was the Carfax on the 07. All work done at the Toyota dealer in a nearby city including a major service including new water pump one month before I bought it. I feel quite lucky to have gotten this car for $9800.

Not when it looks great AND has a complete dealership service history. For me that makes it worth more than a 75K car with NO history.

Plus you have to remember, we're talking about a Toyota!

DJ, i'm just comparing it to the prices others are seeing/paying. in my area, apparently, they don't command as high a price as some others. fyi, in ma and other carb states, it has a 10 year 150,000 mile warranty. i can't guarantee you anything, that's the nature of used cars, you buy them 'as is'. sorry to hear about your roof, so much for the 'sunshine state'.

**7amEDT 7-23-12: Thank your 4 taking the time to reply. I have to tell you, after having had rented a Pri-Nothing, in my mind, can take the place of a PRIUS. Even if i won a car-say on the Price is Right-everyone who know me knows...I'd trade/sell it before the ink was dry.

P.S. Fl TX would be 6%-7%($985 approx) ; $400 registration; $89.00 (bs)filling fee; all added to a price adverised as $15,900.
***dear "C"--I'd buy from a dealer because I sinply can NOT afford approx. $150+ to pay a mechanic to ck out the car-1 car at a time. Thanks for your reply, DJ

Hello everyone. It's 6am EDT & as the lightning & thunder awoke my wife, puppy & me-I jumped out of bed to disconnect the roof antenna from the LR TV--&i just HAD TO SEE if anyone answered my questions. FYI: I have had the great learning experience of having rented 3 Prii in successive yrs. of '08, '09 & '10. For two wks at a time I was close to heaven as far as never worrying about cking "gasbuddy.com." ***I even broke the "605 mile Club" w/ the 1 light on-I gased up & it took ONLY 8.5 gal. I remember this fact from 2008. We would have bought one then, but for my health issues & my wife's bank manager's position became less dependable (after 24+ LOYAL YEARS) as her bank was swallowed then 'vulturized' by a Big Bank(that was saved by US). I'm not playing the violin here, I'm just attempting to explain y I seem a little desperate & try to add some humour to many of my otherwise serious statements. I guess it's because there ain't been much to laugh about since she lost her job & like many of my countrymen, we've become homebodys & cabin-fever victims because "gas money" to take a leisurely ride had all but dried up since food & shelter must take priority. D-tv, cable & a land-line are GONE ! Replaced by 1 internet connection & my ooma-V.O.I.P. telephone(no bills since '08). I've been able to convince a relative to hesitantly 'loan' me most of $ needed to what i know will cut my gas expenses in 1/2. Then, & only then can my wife consider a new job at greater distances and I will be able to drive 60-100miles 1-way to those jobs I've had to refuse in the past. I can still entertain as a musician, (having performed w/2 bands now in the R&R Hall)I can DJ, & sing yet, w/ a vehicle that gets 22-25MPG(driving @ 60mph) loaded w/minimal P.A. equipment-well it hurts. Not to mention the countless tail-gators almost rear ending me on the hiway as I TRY to save fuel. NO ONE SEEMS TO REMEMBER the Nationwide 55MPH speed limits during Prez Clinton's term !!
IT SAVES LIVES & SAVES GAS !!
Oh well, I truly didn't mean to bore anyone here-just wanted to share a little more insight into my personna. Maybe i should just get a much cheeper compact car & learn to COPE while sitting in traffic jams, red lights, stop&go knowing I wouldn't be burning hardly any gas if I owned a PRIUS. I'm trying not to lose faith for I still believe in miracles.
Now you know why I've become " imOCD4a_Prius" Have a good day everyone. DJ

I paid a little less than $14k for my base model '08 Prius with 72k miles on it last Sept. Also, I was at my local dealer when the Prius C arrived and they had two 2nd Gen's on the lot for more than the Prius C.
