Finally, Yakima got the Prius C in their database. According to their website, their roof rack systems will not work with the car....unless you want a "permanent" installation, whatever that means.

it means they drill into the roof to mount the tracks.

Yep they are drilled in. I have a Thule system on my vw rabbit, it's a clean look and doesn't mess up the doors.

I tried to link an image but it's my first post and apparently you need to do 5 posts before u can post links.

I called Yakima to get the real scoop. The customer service person said that they're still working on the correct fit. It's a process where the techs have to just try all the available Q-clips that they have. If they determine their existing clips will work, they'll post it online and it'll be ready for public consumption. If they find no secure fit, then they'll most likely engineer some new clips. It's just a matter of time till they get around to the Prius C- she said there's a long queue of cars before the C. Bummer.

I was on the phone with Yakima today too. The guy said techs have been meeting with Toyota and Honda for the past week, so hopefully that's a good sign.

Has anyone considered a hatch rack? I only plan to haul a bike or two. Open to suggestions on hatch racks for bikes.

I think the spoiler would get damaged with a hatch rack. I wish that would work.

Here is recent information from Thule via ORS Racks Direct (Thule is saying they are the only ones currently with a fit):

The problem with the Toyota Prius C is that the degree of the doorframe is at an angle that makes it almost parallel with the door when the Prius door is closed. This general “lack of angle” makes it very hard to attach a clamp rack on the vehicle. In addition there isn’t a place for the bracket to grab the doorframe (no indentations etc.).

The answer is a “permanent” roof rack installation meaning you have to drill into the roof. There are 2 options for this – you can attach Thule TP42 Roof Tracks with the Thule 3101 Fit Kit and use the Thule 460 Podium roof top car rack system ( and then add bike rack attachments or whatever you want) – you can position the rack where you want on the tracks ( it’s movable) – OR you can use the Thule 3114 Podium Fit Kit to install the 460 and 460R podium roof rack in a permanent position – great if you don’t like the looks of the tracks.

My retailer, FarmWay in Vermont, called Thule last week while I was there to see what progress has been made in developing a rack for the Prius C. They're still working on it and are sure they'll have something shortly.

It seems like the rain gutter will hold a rack well, even though the door frame has a shallow angle. I hope something will fit.

I found this on orsrackdirect.com they claim no manufacturers have anything to fit the C and It doesn't sound like there will be a roof rack unless it's bolt on.
Roof Rack for 2012 Toyota Prius C - Complete Information

Would any of you consider a permenant roof rack? Would ther be special concers because it's a hybrid (warranty etc)?
I never thought I would do something like this, but I found out that you can mount rails on the car which are adjustable or you can remove towers and bars.

    Thule - TP42 42" Tracks with Flare-Nut fastners

I don't think I would go this route until next year, if I did decide to do something like this. I found with my honda fit I would cram everything inside (2 bikes, and weeks worth of camping gear) which became annoying when you need something that's buried on the bottom. I don't necessarily want to carry a lot of weight, I just want smaller loads on the top, hitch (warranty concerns keep me from doing this) or in the car when camping.
