I just bought a 2012 Prius III and am about to put a trailer hitch on it and wire it up for pulling my small trailer to go camping. I had a 2006 Prius and used the part that Darell had listed to use and it worked great. I'm wondering if the same wiring harness will work on my 2012 or do I need to get a different one?

GREAT NEWS!!!!! For all of you that have installed a wiring harness on your Gen II prius' (mine was a 2006), the same harness works on the 2012 Prius also, so there's no need to buy a new one. I just put the old harness on my 2012 this afternoon and connected my trailer up and everything works perfectly. I am a happy camper!!!! (y) :D The part I had used on my 2006 was the Draw-Tite 118308 and was wired via the directions that Darell had posted on his site. Prius Trailer Wiring I must admit though, that my wife and I tried to get the wires switched over and had no luck so Darell said I could send the part to him and he did it for me. Thanks a million again!

OK, so I look at the DrawTite web site and they have a "unit" specifically for the Gen II Prius: 118505
    The "Your Price" is $88.95
    The "List Price" is $70.95
"You save" is $15. My math says "I save" MINUS $18. Must be they have the top two reversed. But maybe not. If you click "add to cart" the price IS $88.95. Wth???
eTrailer (the link from Darrell's install page) sells the same Prius T-One connector for $59.95 and the Camry connector for $27.95
AutoAnything sells a Curt equivilent for the Prius ($50.95) including shipping. You get t0 pay shipping if you order from eTrailer or DrawTite.

So the question. What is the difference between the 118308 Camry part (for $27.95) and 118505 Prius part ($59.95) if they both work (after a few minutes of repinning)???? The only obvious difference is they put a reasonably long grounding wire on the Prius model and a puny short one on the Camry model. A foot of wire doesn't cost $32.

Why would you go through all that hassle when you can get a kit for $40 which has an aux power supply and is plug & play?

Apparently "which has an aux power supply" is the answer to the question.

You need an aux supply as the car is not designed to handle any more load on the existing lights.

    EdtheFox5,
To quote you "Why would you go through all that hassle when you can get a kit for $40 which has an aux power supply and is plug & play?". Can you give me a URL, or a lead to that trailer wiring kit,
    And Oblige,
    Suisse.
