I'm waking up this morning with some very mixed feelings. We are picking up a new Prius v and are excited about it but our beloved '08 Touring won't be comming home. It was a victim of it's own success. We took a big hit on mileage on the trade-in, that car went everywhere with us.

Anyway, enough of that, time to move forward, this v is a model 2 with 6 miles on the odometer. I'm wondering if there is any thoughts or ideas of what I should do or ask before we leave the dealership today. Also we are going to be taking the new car on a 1500 mile road trip this weekend to Portland Oregon. Any tips on driving and living with our new Prius v include accessories to add in the coming months.

    Thanks in Advance,

Make sure they put the side rail shipping plugs in, although not a big concern if they don't. They are located in the glove compartment and often get forgotten. My accessory upgrades on model 3 were homelink dimming mirror, mudguards and longer antenna (swap from your 08 if you desire).

You will appreciate the better ride, less wandering and quieter environment while maintaining almost the same mileage. I also like the simple ev/regen/power display on the left and the overall layout of the dash.

The deal is done "Oh, What A Feeling" Thanks for the tips.

Any tips for the trip. I've been told to vary the speed for the 1st 500 miles. I'm thinking about using the cruise on the flat lands and turning it off in the mountains. Any thoughts?

Read the owner's manual regarding breakin. My v3 stated that during the first 1000 miles, I should not drive at "high speeds" nor drive at a constant speed. Also, no hard braking during the first 200 miles.

Congratulations! I wouldn't recommend cruise control for this initial road trip, at least until you've surpassed the break in period. Vary speed and no extreme breaking. It's all in the manual. Also, I'd recommend you have the dealership reprogram the reverse to one beep, that is, if the constant reverse beeping is an annoyance to you. Have fun!

We're looking at a 2; according to the sales literature, the homelink mirror can't be had on either the 2 or 3. How'd you get yours?

Excellent. Why didn't I think of that? Too bad Toyota didn't at least run a switched 12V line to the mirror location, but that probably would have increased the price by$0.75 or so. But it also might have decreased the oveall cost of the v series, taking advantage of common parts. Ah, well.

Congrats on the new Prius....always hard when you trade in the older car.....you develop a history and a relationship together.

On a side note: My dealership never told me anything about driving the first 1000 miles and I of course didnèt read the owner manual....but I have been careful except for cruise control, which I use frequently.....
