Zipcar is a gimmick you never find the car when you need, especially in short notice ... (even within 4-5 days). I wasted 1 year (the minimum at that time) subscription and couldn't use it ONCE while I rented from enterprise at least 10 time at that year ... ZipCar is only good for very short rental day or less perhaps but never worked for me.

I was always able to get a car from interprise even within 24 hours in my area ...

sorry to take so long to respond. You asked me "Where did you get this info? [about the battery dying if not used] I read these forums regularly and have not read of one person that is has had a traction battery issues on a Gen III Prius."

When the 2001 started acting up, it had all sorts of danger symbols on the display and it drove terribly, really slow and strangely, my husband took it to the dealer and they told him it needed a new main battery. When reminded of the low miles, they said this was common in cars not driven much. We tried to get Toyota to put in a new batter under warranty, it was not that long out of warranty, but they refused. We spoke to an acquaintance, a Toyota mechanic, who confirmed the car needed to be driven on a semi regular basis for the best life of the battery. My mother had the car for over six years and I believe it was around 25,000 miles when we gave it to her so in six years it was only driven about 10,000 miles.

I really wish I had known about this as we could have switched cars with her on occasion and put some miles on the car.

I thought about it and considered that it makes sense, that the car needs to be driven more than this one was for the good of the battery. Do you think this is not true? I'd hate to think the dealer told me a whopper but the mechanic friend, who works at another dealer wouldn't have lied to me. I do think Toyota should let their Prius owners know this.
