0-180km/h - how fast is the Prius compared to similar cars?

I don't know that answer but I know I can beat most any Bubba pickup off the line in my car Of course that pisses them off but I don't care

the 2010 Liftback does 0 to 100 MPH is 30.2 seconds, per Car and Driver (about 161 kph)

They tested a 2004 Prius and it took 39.6 seconds to 100 MPH

If you care about 0-180 get another car... Any minivan would be faster than the Prius.
0-100 mph in 30 sec is what my 89' Civic Si used to do.

 

It will make less difference about 100km/hr than below. There is less shifting going on and acceleration is slower so any time lost shifting will have a smaller percentage impact on time to speed.

Also. from many years of reading road tests, most cars take 40 seconds +/- a little bit to reach top speed. Naturally, if top speed is significantly limited by a governor that doesn't apply.

 

Mine goes fast enough to get out of someone else's way.

 

It will do worse than a similarly powerfull car, it will act about like a 100 hp car because the battery/motor will stop helping as you get up in speed, software also tries to be more "efficient". 30 seconds.

After you reach full speed, the prius's good aerodynamics will help, but many more powerful cars will have their engines at a more efficient bsfc point. The gen III is optimized to do much better at higher speeds than the gen II, but it still has performance biased towards lower speeds.

 

What kind of MPG can a Prius do cruising at 100 MPH?

 

Just noticed that pakitt is in Munich. The prius is as fast as an average european car (Golf, Opel Astra etc).
For example Golf 2.0 TDI does 0-160 kph in about 24 sec.
Cars here (US) are much more powerful due to lower gas prices.

 

The 2011 Volt does 0-100 mph in about 30 seconds in EV mode using only battery power, according to Motor Trend.

The Volt does 0-100 mph in about 23 seconds in hybrid (charge sustaining) mode with the gas engine running.

 

Pakitt... you have the best location to test it . I won't tell you exact time but I wasn't disappointed while traveling near full speed. It doesn't took ages (except when Audi's LED DRLs where getting bigger very fast in the mirror on the 3rd lane...). I think it was similar to Auris 1.4 D-4D and Auris 1.6 petrol 125 HP.
Alfa Romeo 159 with 1.9 JTDm and 150 HP performed much better at high speeds.
Prius is very effective in acceleration but only 1 - 2 times in a row. After battery level goes down you end up with 100 HP engine.

ikagan - here in Europe it's a little bit different. More agressive driving style is popular. On the other hand typical cars have 90 - 130 HP and manual shifters, not 300 HP V6

Jonny Zero - you can expect about 8.0 l/100km (29 mpg). It's not bad for R4 petrol engine.
Check my winter, march entries at spritmonitor below (look at BC for average speed - 130 kmh means traveling at least 150 kmh for longer periods).

A manual makes all the difference, I enjoy driving my 1.6 (116HP) Miata much more than wife's Infiniti G37 (330HP)

 

When I sold my STI I was carless for a while and my friend gave me an 89 civic Si. That was dangerously slow. I couldn't believe it was the "hot" version of the car. The first three gears were about all I ever needed. 4'th and 5'th gear were useless because the car couldn't get going fast enough to need the higher gears haha.

To make the story even more funny, I left it behind when I moved and forgot about it. Years later, I remembered it when visiting home and asked my brother what happened to it? He said: "Oh, that slow red car, I sold that a year ago and bought some rims for my car with the money."

At the time I was driving my Supra and I had forgotten I ever even had it, so it was all laughs.

 

Mine was red too. Back in 89' it was a hot Hatch and faster than a Miata. I traded it for a FD RX-7.

I found a Car and Driver comparison which included a Gen 2 Prius and a Toyota Echo among other cars.

Same engine block in the two Toyotas, wildly different tuning!

The OP is from Germany, 180 km/hr is just autobahn cruising speed.

 

Does Volt exceed 100mph? I've seen some specs pointing to 100mph top speed.
