30,000 mi dealer service scam?

    It is a shame that some dealers do this. Obviously some cars have particular problems and having a particular car get a preemptive service may not necessarily be a waste -- but no relatively new car is going to need any kind of fuel system cleaning at 30k .... and especially not for $169.00. I have to say I have never had this type of recommendation with any of the european or british cars I have owned -- but almost always with the Japanese makes and occasionally with the US brands.

    Well most cars can go 100k miles without a spark plug change, so why would you clean something that other parts do not need cleaning that are in direct line of said dirty parts down stream.. All that cleaned off gunk goes somewhere and its not in the trash. These cars are very clean. I have a f150 with 185k miles on it and on the second set of plugs, orginal set of injector and it ran fine and no loss of power.

    Did they discuss this with you before providing this "maintenance"?
