OK, you didn't even include his eBay feedback. Two negatives within the past month, out of 7 feedbacks for the month (a 71.4% positive rating for the month, or pretty poor in my opinion). Quoting one, in which bigmike5 is the seller, "SELLER SAD MINT .ITEM WAS WATER DEMAGE." It is also a testament to the sad situation concerning spelling, but that's another story.

Also, the initial posting is very deceiving. It sounds like he's a guy who bought one to put on his car, and then for whatever reason didn't get around to doing it. But no, he's got 4, so that's not the same.

I was going to check into this, since I need one, but I was going to offer $50 and pay the small amount plus shipping. Which means andyprius was probably a bit nicer than I would have been. Why even pay $75 for an unknown when you can get them mail order from a place that PriusChat members have already purchased from, for I think right around $90 which would also include shipping. I had looked up the part recently, but I'll have to recheck where it is for that price. Maybe somebody else will help with naming the place.

$88 plus shipping at championtoyotaparts.com Give or take a couple bucks seems to be the going price for on-line dealers. The Daly City dealer has it for $87 over the counter. Maybe a local dealer will match the price ?

 

Was it $87 after or before Coupon Price? They have 25% and 20% coupon in the the Advertiser paper.

I have a 2008 Prius which just developed an inverter pump issue and have learned lots from the internet. Someone had previously posted some concerns about hybrid warning light and engine check light coming on and not knowing what to do. He took it to the dealership and was told they changed the spark plugs; go figure. As it turned out, the combination of all these lights, including the hybrid light on the display panel, is indicative of an inverter water pump failure. Since these cars do not have a temperature indicator for all three water pumps, this is the only indication one will get when driving an overheating Prius.
Here is some of what I experienced: I hit a bump on a major highway and all these lights came on followed by a beeping sound and a message on the display panel asking me to idle off the road and stop. I followed the instructions, waited a few minutes and reset all the lights. I cranked it up again and after a few minutes the A/C stopped working, the check engine light, Parking brake light, disc brake light, red triangle warning light and hybrid light on display panel all came at once. I nursed my car to my house and parked it for a day until I researched what was going on.
As it turned out, there has been a recall on these pumps from 2004 - 2007; my car was built on the last quarter of 2007 but the VIN does not fall under the recall. So, I have to pay over $400 for parts and labor.
I just talked to the dealership today and they inform me the cost of the pump is a little over $120.00 and about $42 for fluids replacement. With my intensive research, I didn't argue about the pump, but why the fluid replacement when the hoses are supposed to be clamped prior to the 15 minutes removal and replacement of the pump. There is a video tape on YouTube of a taxi cab company replacing them like rotating tires on a car.
My next argument will be the cost of labor. I am being charged over $200 in labor for a 30 minutes worth of labor (max).
Anything anyone else out there can share about how to approach these issues? I love my car; I think it is the best car ever built; low maintenance (until now), the best combined gas milage any car can offer and very practical.

 

You could have bought a used pump, cheaper, and done the work yourself or local friendly mechanic. The job is not complicated. Always go this direction first.

 

Andyprius, do you have any update or a good guide on how to replace the inverter water pump other than the Luscius youtube video. Do you know if you need to replace the coolant too? I am having the same issue you have: link.

 

I can walk you you thru the procedure. If you have more than 50,000 miles on the coolant or if you do not know, replace it. While facing front of car, coolant pump is located to your right and just to left of and lower than fuse and relay box. Basically, remove and replace. Save old coolant if you like. Take off power connector and clips holding tubing. When replacing clean everything and lightly lubricate hoses forease of installment. ( with vasoline ) )After assy and preparing to pour in new coolant OPEN bleeder valve located at top right of radiator. When coolant starts leaking out close nipple, attach a suitable size clear hose to nipple and attach other end into coolant refill resevoir. Put car in ready and crack nipple open until all air bleeds out, then close nipple. Make sure coolant refill is just under top line and put car in ready again.Should be some turbulance on coolant surface showing pump is working. Reapply bleeder hose again, make sure all air is out. Give car a test drive. Check inverter temperature, should be cool to slightly warm to the touch. Never HOT. And that's it. Good Luck. FOUND IT.
