Too much Al Gore kool aid in here. Fun Stuff.

So if I own a Prius (quite fuel miserly) and Tundra (not so much), what does that make me?

Yes, I've seen that research... But an important point I'm trying to make here is that diversity is the basis of resiliency. Some species disappear entirely when CO2 levels get too high and some species start to truly thrive. The best available science makes it clear that more species diversity in a landscape the more resilient, the more likely it will continue to thrive. That's why mono-crop forestry is a great example of stupidity / paving the way for eco-calamity.

Most of all we're only human, we don't understand everything that's going on. Like babes in the womb... Yet the more we're willing to let go of our ideologies and beliefs, the more adaptable we're able to become.

And how this all comes around back to our mutual Prius love is that perhaps those who chose 50mpg over those who think that's some kind of bizarre fantasy they were told not to except (because we're suppose to love power and consumption over common sense.) Well... That's a great example of adaptability in the face of inferior people trying to tell us about the way life is supposed to be. As in us Prius folk are more likely to not only pollute our planet's extremely thin atmosphere less, but we're also more willing to make the right decisions in all the too many other kinds of planetary mess.

Not too sure how this relates to the fate of Reedja42, but I'm sure he's circled the wagon in the same way his ancestors did. I'm also less likely to be offended by him than someone who doesn't understand the beauty of Prius Zen!!!

I was born in 1966 and I don't care about global warming. Let's face it they can't tell me if it will rain on Saturday but I'm supposed to believe them on this? In January of 2011 something went wrong with the warming. I had to purchase a snow shovel and I live in Georgia. Face the same people now predicting global warming were predicting another ice age a couple decades ago.

It is you who is unable to engage in a meaningful conversation. I am responding to you point by point, you have yet to respond in any coherent fashion what so ever; so to help you, I will break it down for you.

That’s quite a claim; site your source.

Then quit complaining about fires and let them burn as they did in the beginning. You’re the one who started crying like Chicken Little, “the forests are burning, the forests are burning.”
You can either manage them or let them burn, you seem to want it both ways.

Seriously? So let me get this straight, industry can’t produce science? This is absurd, so the science of corn hybridization that has allowed the feeding of millions, who would otherwise starve, and the simultaneous production of the ethanol you demand we put in our gasoline, isn’t science? How about the industry scientists who have produced the filters that scrub the exhaust from our cars and power plants, to help clean our air; that is not science? Speaking of forestry, if we destroy all of our trees, the loggers would be out of business, so it is in their best interest that the forests are healthy and thriving. The forests on my family’s lands are thriving and filled with wildlife of all kinds. I guess this is in spite of our occasional “Industrial Forestry”. You keep making these blanket statements, that humans are laying waste to the earth, that if one is to believe them, then the earth should look like mars. You say, I only believe what I am told, but I believe it is you who blindly regurgitates what they have been fed. I believe what I have seen with my eyes, and what I have experienced. You on the other hand, literally “cannot see the forest for the trees.” You of course have to insult me by saying I’m less than human, just one of those little people. How dare I have a mind of my own! You say I only believe what I am told, but if I just believed what you tell me without question then I would be fine.

Ah yes, the all caring, all loving, tree hugging, pre-European cultures of the Americas. The same ones who hunted the Wooly Mammoth, the Mastodon, and the saber tooth tiger, among others, to EXTINCTION! Never mind the human sacrifices, and occasional cannibalism.

And the cave is where you want all the little people to stay, just like your precious pre-European civilizations. You, the enlightened, see no problem driving cars, flying in planes, wearing clothes, using all the comforts that modern society has invented, and I’ll bet you even turn on an electric light at night and use indoor plumbing. You hypocrite!

Not at all; I learn new things every day. I have yet to learn anything from you however; with the exception of how glad I am that I am not as miserable and closed minded as you. I work with people from all over the globe on a daily basis, and completely understand the strength of diversity. So to close, you assume to know my motivation, that all I care about is greed, yet you make no effort to know me. Why I’ll bet you are financially better off than me. Do you give to charity? My family does. Do you help friends in need? My family does. I have two children, and I strive to leave them a better world than the one I inherited; do you?

So now it’s time to insult my ancestors, who for your information, came to America to escape persecution before it was America, who fought for our freedom in the Revolution, who were abolitionists and fought to free the slaves in the Civil War, and who defended a women’s’ right to vote. They were real liberals, when liberalism was about real freedom. Not like your type of liberalism, where freedom is given lip service, all the while foisting socialism and big government on everyone as the answer to completely exaggerated and even made up problems. Freedom is the natural yearning of all people and it is the closest thing to Zen that exists.

There are 4 reasons for owning a Prius-
    > Prevent Global Warming (only if you believe in AGW)
    > Conserve resources (save for future generations)
    > Save money (lost cost of ownership...ceratin models)
    > World's coolest car

    I'd keep it

This thread is about ghg based climate change and my generation, and you are responding to comments related to that. If you read the comments in context, you might be able to respond in a sensible way.

If you are talking about what happened 60+ years ago you should use past, not present tense. That would make things more intelligible. Blaming greed on gen X, like me born in the late 70s, for destruction and greed long before I was born makes no sense. Perhaps you should start a new thread. If not believing that "sea level will rise 20 feet in the near future" or "ghg caused huricane katrina" is causing destruction, first you need to substanciate what I consider false statements, then show cause and effect of belief and destructive action.

Stop blaming and start engaging in a real discussion.

Ive never heard of any plant which is adversely affected by higher CO2 levels.
    What are you referring to?

Indeed, plants breath CO2, so for them the higher the better. This is why we are thinking of using plants to start the terraforming of Mars.:)

You would probably be able to get your point across (whatever that point might be....) if you dialed back the rhetoric a little bit.
In my experience, people who throw their educational accomplishments out as a validation of their otherwise questionable arguments are either posers, or they're folks who have been educated a little beyond their intelligence. You probably know what I'm talking about. 165 IQ, but wears Velcro shoes. ;)
Forestry is a little off my patch, but it sounds like you're a little too tightly focused on old-growth trees.
That's OK as far as it goes, but usually someone who uses insults and amplitude instead of well thought out arguments is speaking from a weaker position in that argument.
    You're quite passionate.
That's laudable but remember that if you use light rather than heat to illuminate your point, you'll gain and hold a wider audience. Otherwise? You might as well be one of those nut jobs who get their rocks off spiking trees and painting cracks on dams.
(I never have figured out why they do that btw.... ????)

    One last point.
The Prius is a pretty green car (if you're into that kinda thing.)
I'm thinking that yours would be a little more 'carbon neutral' if you didn't spend so much in man-made materials for mods for it. I did notice that most of these are future mods, and it's your car. Knock yourself out!~
I do not know about you, but it sorta reminds me of the Hollywood types that scream about animal rights in designer leather shoes and handbags.
    YMMV. :)

    Interesting UK article here about how todays teens are much more clean living than earlier generations;

BBC News - Teenagers shunning drugs for healthier lifestyle

Drug use, smoking take up etc are all down significantly from a decade ago.

The survey also found the proportion of 11-to-15-year-olds smoking was the lowest since the polling began in 1982, and the number of "regular" smokers had halved in the past decade.

The proportion drinking alcohol at least once has dropped to under half - 45%, compared with 61% per cent in 2001.
Only 7% reported drinking regularly, down from 20% 10 years ago.

So what gives? What causes this radical clean up? Maybe they've watched the damage caused by the teens who grew up in the 1960s & 70s where drug taking was part of the culture? Maybe the damage caused by this throw away generation has had other effects too?

The World kids of today will inherit will be a mess and maybe they already know that?

Maybe they are learning what many of us who have grown up in the farm lands of America have known for years and that is that sober and responsible living make for a better life, a better country, and a better world. I hope this is the case.
