It is nice to have but any speed higher than 55 mph is going to zap the EV range quick.

    EPA Smog Score

The EPA Smog Score represents the amount of health-damaging and smog-forming airborne pollutants the vehicle emits. Scoring ranges from 1 (worst) to 10 (best). This score does not include emissions of greenhouse gases.

Smog score differs from state to state. Not sure which state C-MAX specs are from.

The regular Prius and PHV in CARB states have the score of 9. Non-CARB states have 7.

Thanks, that sheet I linked just says EPA SULEV smog scorce 8 for the hybrid, 9 for the energi. It sounds like it is carb states, as those are the ones with sulev, my prius says bin 3 on the epa site.

Is my texas 2010 prius different than a CARB prius in tail pipe emissions? Or do they just measure smog scores differently.

problem with that is there are people in AZ who almost exclusively only charged to 80% SOC and are still seeing premature loss. now, maybe a fan is enough and liquid cooling is not needed but some in
AZ report going a week at a time where temps get to no lower than the upper 80's at night meaning a battery pack has little or no chance to cool down below the magic 30C (86F) level

Hey, i'm in texas, and think anyone who lives here should lease instead of buy. There is risk, even with the liquid cooled packs of the volt and tesla S. The prius phv and ford energi have different chemistry than the leaf, and may do better in the heat. Until they are out in the field for awhile, we just don't know.

This is exactly right, and is one reason why I went with the standard Prius rather than the PiP. Lithium Ion cells are more heat sensitive than NiMh. Only time will tell how they will handle high heat areas of the country. Different chenistry or not the situation with the Leaf is very concerning.

    Or zero dollars.

Golf Gas 4Dr with sunroof and convenience package $22,705
Golf TDI 4Dr with sunroof and convenience package $22,705

Cost differences between a gas engine and auto Diesel should be minimal.

why should it be minimal? In Europe, difference between petrol and diesel engines is usually around $2.5-3k, depending on the market. Diesels cost considerably more to make than NA petrol engines.

Because there is not much difference in the cost to build an auto gas vs. auto Diesel engine. No price difference between identical Golf's one with gas, one with Diesel being an example.

He was either talking about some fantasy future or has his facts wrong. Everyone knows that a diesel engine is a premium item and a turbo is a premium item. Put the two together and you have something similar to a hybrid premium. Except in heady duty trucks where the premium can skyrocket! LOL

I am just looking at VW USA Golf, 2.5l vs 2.0TDI. Difference is $5k + Alloy wheels, while Jetta TDI is 2.7k more expensive than 2.5l engine.

i did... it says they have same equipment except for extra 17" wheels.

i am not sure why I am trying to point out to you that diesels are more expensive to make than petrol engines... it is a fact and common sense... read up with google :)

You need to go check your facts again. These are the cheapest trim models for each engine type with an auto.

    2012 Golf TDi 2dr HB DSG= $26,105
    2012 Golf GTi 2Dr HB Auto=$19,865

You need to compare the correct packages instead of cherry-picking trims to suit your argument.

You do realize the TDi engine is a 2.0L right? :)

Ford says "fall" of this year. Fusion Energi will be here "end of the year".

I also remember numbers around 10K per year. Not sure of the source.

At a glance, the big ticket difference is that the C-max doesn't have navigation standard. Beyond that, the differences between the base model features are minor. The Prius has back up camera, C-max rear sensors; Prius - 6 way drivers seat, C-max - 10 way power drivers seat; etc. They both appear to have the same level of functionality. Neither lacks in an area, like having manual windows, to the other.

A C-max Energi with all the available goodies, including panoramic sun roof, comes to $37,425 with delivery. For me delivery pushes the Prius PHV advanced just over $40 grand.

Yep you can build them on ford and toyota's site

    A fully loaded c-max has
    Sun roof
    Leather
    10 way power drivers seat
Hatch that open's with your foot
More passenger room, and cargo room with second row down
    20 versus 11 CD miles
    17" wheels

    The prius has
    Radar cruze control.
More cargo room with second row up.
50mpg versus 47mpg in charges sustain

I think those are the big ticket items.

C-Max is what we Europeans call MPV. It is a smaller Prius V in terms of proportions, other than comparable to regular Prius.

So it really should be compared to Prius v than Prius, except that Prius v doesnt have the plugin version.
