How much mpg would be affected if i change the rim size to 16x7

Good question. There was a lot discussion about it, and many people have said that 16" rims deliver lower mpg compared to 15" rims. I have original 16" rims - can't complain about my mpg. My morning 14 miles commute without AC is about 63-67 mpg. The same route on the way back during 100F day with ac set on 78F auto gives me between 53-57 mpg. I have nothing to compare with, but as I mention above, I can't complain about my mpg on 16" rims.

 

It depends on which tires you choose. Going from a LRR 15" tire to a non-LRR 16" could drop you quite a bit (4mpg+). Since there are no LRR alternatives in the OE 16" size it makes this a tough choice.

 

You'd have to go with either the Yokohama Avid Ascend in 185/55-16, or something in a 195/55-16 or 205/50-16 in LRR to not noticeably affect FE... assuming going that wide won't also markedly impact economy.

 

Why do you expect to get 60mpg? Maybe your commute length and other driving conditions are not conducive to high fuel efficiency. High speed driving can also tank mileage as can heavy use of A/C.

 

Ranz, many factors are involved into your total mpg. F8L gave a very good example. Your average is different to some other people average, but it does not necessarily means that there is something wrong with your car. Short trips, higher speed limits, hills, ac lower your mpg. I live in Houston, and we don't have any significant hills overhere. I can tolerate 82F during my early morning commute to work in order to be more fuel efficient, and I keep my ac at 78 on the way back. I could take highways on my way to work, but I don't. First of all my commute will be a little bit more than a mile longer, second of all my back roads are giving me the speed limits comfortable for FE. The speed limits on my way are between 30 to 45 mph.

 

Long distance commutes are good for mpg if you can keep your speed at 60mph or lower. Keep the A/C off or set the temp to 78F or higher to minimize the mpg hit. Also try and glide to every stop and on every offramp. With a few tweaks to your driving style I bet you could get killer fuel economy if you have a long commute like mine (49miles one-way).

 

They are either 7 or 7.5, I need to check on that, but I am more leaning towards 7. The tires size is 195/50R16

 

I can't answer your question but we are switching to 15x7 wheels in the morning.
