I haven't had any probs with speed bumps but I always take driveway at a angle.....also parking blocks.....most will hit the bumper if I pull all the way in but I don't have to worry bout that as I always back into parking spots.

This ride is great. I didn't have time to compare the stock ride since I put the springs in 2 days after i took delivery.

Think of it this way.....the springs will lower the ride but the 17s will bring it back up some

Sean, the 17s are actually short than the OE 15s. :)

    :)

    195/65/15 = 25" (OE)
    215/45/17 = 24.6" (OE)
    205/50/17 = 25.1 (my preference for 17" replacement size)

wow $750 for wheels AND tires? you practically stole them. that's a great deal. I sold my OEM wheels only for $800.

I have the tein htechs. Lowered about 1.2. Paid $114 for them. Drove on some 18 inch wheels for a week and the ride was very stiff but on the 15s it isn't bad. LMK if you dont end up selling your wheels to the other buyer, I'm also interested.

prius side pic.JPG I have a 2010 "V" with the factory 17" rims and tires and there is the same or a little more gap than the 15" produce. The 17 " with the 215/45/17 tires are a little smaller in diameter (1/4-1/8") so the gap is a little more.

I just put a set of Eibach Pro Kit springs on my car yesterday and the difference is great, looks better and IMO handles better with out being to stiff. Makes the wheels and wheel wells look appropriate , they do not give you the "slammed " look because they lowered my car from 27" ground to top of wheel well to 25 7/8" in the front and 26" in the rear . So overall about 1". I also repainted the wheels a gloss black.

don't worry about a lower mpg. so far on my 2012 prius 5 with the same 17 oem wheels my best tank score is 62.3 mpg driving my daily 30 mile commute 30% of which is highway. all depends on how you drive it

Do you think 215/50/17 would fit?

Why bother? You don't need a tire that wide unless you plan on doing every suspension mod available and racing it. The tire would be even taller and heavier than the 205/50/17.

I figured it would close the wheel gap even more than the 205/50/17 tires.

It would but I think you would be fine with the 205/50/17 and a lowering kit. When the tire gets too tall it starts looking beefy and off-road like. You don't want that. :)

Hmmm... Good point. I'm just looking for alternatives to lowering the car. I'm not sure I quite trust the wife driving a lowered car. Well, I guess I'll see what the 215/45/17 tires look like and go from there.

i forget where i posted it, but look at my pic of the black rim with blue lug nuts. my wheels are 17s. the tires are 215/45/17. I think it's in the "what did you do to your prius today?"

OK, done deal. Here's some pics...

Initial impressions are great. Love the look. It certainly looks more sporty and cleaner than the OEM 15s. The wheel gap is doable, but I'm probably going to eventually go with bigger tires (205/50/17 or 215/50/17), or get the car lowered. The ride feels more sturdy (less road wobble on bumpy LA freeways), and way more grip on turns. I haven't noticed any mileage drop - actually on a 80 mile drive today (mixed freeway and street driving in both traffic and on open roads) I averaged 55-60 MPG, and I normally average around 50-55 MPG. A bit slower in acceleration, but once the car is in motion, I think I've been having a much easier time keeping the car above the 50 MPG barrier. Aside from the slight wheel gap increase, I couldn't be happier with the upgrade.

Quick question though... I currently have the tires at 36 PSI (max pressure for the tires is 51 PSI). Is 36 too much or too little pressure?

Looks good. Lots of gap but not much can be done about it without springs.

The tire pressure is fine but feel free to try a higher pressure if you want (up to sidewall max). Just keep an eye on tread wear and adjust the pressure accordingly.

Yep, probably gonna lower the car soon. Is there a big difference between Eibachs and Toyota TRD springs? I think I can get TRD springs at a steep discount.

I believe the OEM pressure recommendation is 33/32 for the 17".

Yep, that's what my buddy at TMS told me was the recommended pressure. Just seems a bit strange to me that the recommended pressure would be almost half of the max PSI indicated on the sidewall (51 PSI).
