The information on the main page seems to indicate that the navigation system has gotten better in the 2006 model year Priuses. Can someone who has a 2006 (or better yet, had/have a 2005 or previous) chime in about their experience with the new system? How are the improvements? Do you still have to turn off the radio to speak to the nav system? Anything else I should know? Thanks.

Well they have apparently removed the back door, so you can't input destinations, while moving. I hope the voice recognition is a lot better!

I have the radio on all the time, and when I hit the 'Talk to the car' button, it works just fine (notwithstanding it's tendency to opt to display Convention Center POIs when I ask for Destination Six).

On Janary 3, 2006 I took delivery of a the 2006 Prius, package #8, Barcelona Red,
in San Diego, California at list price. The Barcelona red is much brighter than the old Salsa red. The leather is dark gray and looks great. :)

The Nav systems seems a bit different. The procedure to override the naviagation lock-out for previous Prius cars does not seem to apply or work for the 2006 Prius. I'm referring to the hard and soft button sequence to allow the navigation system
selections to be used by the passenger while the car is in motion.

Does anyone have a fix or suggestion to allow the 2006 nav to work while the car is moving?

I just got my 2006 Prius. My prior Prius was a 2002. I will echo there has been a HUGE improvement in the screen of the nav system. The high res screen is great! Beautiful maps, easy to read, nice effects like dissolves when changing between screens.

Note that not all 2006 Prius get the high res screen. The owners manual shows two sets of screens. I'm not sure which models are getting the high res screen, but all the Package 8 ones I've seen, including mine, have it.

The voice recognition SUCKS... but this is just my opinion. Don't know if it is better or worse than previous years, but don't know how it could possibly be an improvement!

I have a 2006 package 8 and the nav system works really well. I don't use the voice recog as it seems more work than it is worth. I did try the sequence for allowing an address to be inputed while moving and can confirm that I could not get it to work.
