Well, I had my heart set on a certain model II Gen 3 Prius that I found. Final negotiated price with the seller is $16,200. The car is in great shape, 45,000 miles, expect for two good size (silver dollar) paint scratches (down to the primer) on both sides of the rear bumper. With that being said the rear bumper will need to be repainted and being that the car is Blizzard Pearl it may not be cheap. The owner also just replaced the tires and has all maintenance records for the vehicle. What I find odd though is that he just bought the car after having it leased and is now selling it. He said he just wants a larger car, seems odd though. The vehicle does have a clean CarFax.

My other option is getting a certified pre owned model III with 38,000 miles for $19,000, that's the negotiated price. The car is a a one owner off lease vehicle. This vehicle has the JBL sound system as well as Bluetooth. The car appears to be vehicle in near perfect condition.

I already have the Ottonavi HU (had to jump on the sale, lol) and it's ready to be put in either vehicle. Beyond that and a leather steering wheel cover that's all I'm going to do.

Which option would you go with?

    Thank you!

I would probably check the CarFax and go with the three, then install leather. Here that would be about 1500.00. Where did you get such a great deal?

It's from a local Toyota dealer here in Michigan. I ended up putting a deposit down on the vehicle this evening. In the end it will run me $2,500 more for the CPO model III then the private party II. That's a good amount of money but wow was the car in better shape then the other one I was looking at. There were only a couple small rock chips on the front bumper / hood (unlike the other one where it had lots), engine compartment looked new and the interior looked nearly new as well. I think the JBL sound system, better exterior /interior condition, no need to paint the back bumper, 8,000 less miles and it being CPO and a model III make it a good buy for the price. Finally the wait is nearly over!

considering the lower miles and the upgraded model - the cost for the CPO vehicle is very reasonable. Toyota has a good program and it eliminates any worry and questions about the vehicles mechanical condition

The JBL alone isn't really worth it, only the front speakers put out much sound, but a certified vehicle in good shape from a dealer is worth the difference!

Well, I got the car! This is my first Toyota and its ever awesome. I've been driving an 11 year old PT Cruiser for the past 8 years and vs the Prius it's like night and day. Right now I'm up to 55mpg using some the techniques described on the forums fuel economy section, thank you! The only negative thing about buying the car was the closing experience at the dealership. The actual salesman was great but the business manager turned out to be an nice person. Everything was cool until he started trying to talk me into buying the extended warranty. This is a CPO 2010 model and I felt like I didn't need it. I said no 3 times before being asked again and then I said "I've been doing a lot of research and the Prius is very reliable, I'm good" to which he replied "Well, we know your car better then you do". I said no once again and then he acted like I wasn't even there and said goodbye after I signed a few more documents. I may be sending an email to the dealership manager. Overall, it's an amazing car and I'm hoping to drive it for a good 10 years.

    Details:

    Year: 2010
    Model: III
    Miles: 38k
Price Paid: $19,000 (CPO), 2% interest
Mods ordered (lol): Black Wheelskin, Ottonavi HU, Bazooka subwoofer (oh yeah!)

Thanks again for all the advice and suggestions as I looked for my Prius.
