Weird noises!

    At the service department now... My little C started making this strange noise coming out of the proximity warning system... It sounds like a robot whistling (I don't know how else to describe it) when I'm moving in low speeds. There's also a small grinding noise like something is caught and rubbing up against something. I hope it's nothing major, but I sure am anxious waiting for them to diagnose the problem!

    I think that is correct its the proximity warning. Check youtube. I was in the same situation and was parking in my garage for the first time i was freaked out by that noise too.

    No, I'm used to the regular sounds. This is definitely new... And loud!! I think my neighbors will kill me if my car made this much noise!

    YEP! my little C sounds just like that to, it sounds like something in a Sci Fi film. I remember this sound I just can"t place the movie it was in, space ship, or future electric car, Star Wars. My first thought was somthing wrong or this noise can mask a real problem when a tech is trying to diagnose a problem.
    I want to turn it OFF, as a TECH my self my first instinct was to look for what part is going bad lol.

    I did not for liability reasons. In this litigious society we live in I don't want anyone saying they did not hear my car.

    Ok, so the final verdict is, there was a rock stuck in between the rotor and the backing plate. So I guess that "robotic whistling" noise is really the rock rubbing up against something, even though it sounded so electronic, I could have sworn it was an artificial noise. But the noise is gone now, back to the normal proximity warning sound.

    Luckily the service department took care of the problem, no charge!

    I love this SiFi sound and would miss it. It's cool when you drive in garages, I feel like a space man ;)

    I just tell my wife that our C is in deep thought like Jack Handy on SNL, hahahahaha...
    just love some of the old SNL reruns! The noises could be some sort of future communication plan still in development by Toyota...hmmmmmm....myth busters?
