my wife's car (2005 solara) was stolen a few weeks back from her job. after looking at a few suvs she decided on a v. we considered a tiguan, sportage and a crv. the sportage got thrown in the mix becuase i thought the 10 year 100k was bumper to bumper. she likes the prius the best out of all of those, the crv as the runner up. a bit of the final decision has to do with the mpg, the cost being with 1k, and the hov lane waiver. she is leaning towards the 2 but for a bit over 7o0 more i am wondering if the 3 is the better buy. can anyone please let me know how the nav in it is? also what is so great about entune? those are about the only two differences i noticed.

    thanks,

    liquid

The Model 3 gives you navigation, HD radio, XM radio, steering wheel voice command button, and Entune internet apps. The navigation can be equaled with a low cost Garmin but it does have the advantage of always being with the car and it does a decent job of audible navigation. I don't like the nav display logic as much as even an old Garmin. Even Toyota seems to dismiss it somewhat as you can get a better 7.1" nav in the higher model.

I wanted XM radio integrated instead of add-on and it's pretty well executed. Even the presets can be a mix of AM, FM, HD or XM in any order plus they have decent voice commands in this area. I make use of each additional model 3 feature except the Entune, although it is obviously a work in progress with two flash drive upgrades delivered this year so far. Entune does give you internet radio via your smartphone use of Iheartradio. I suppose the gas pricing app could be useful if it really works, don't know. If they would allow a real browser interface on Entune they would have something.

I can live without most of the features of the 3 except for the XM.

I'll chime in having bought a 2 myself. I was also riding the fence. I have a droid phone - and tablet. I had read on this forum a lot of complaints about entunes, and the nav system having outdated maps. my droid updates regularly over the air, and google maps will get you there really well., you can even switch to street view once you are close - so you can "see" the landmark - If I get around to ordering a holder for my tablet - then i'll have a 10in google map screen.

My phone has pandora, flixter movie tickets and show times, etc. you can download iheart radio - and all will transmit thru to the radio via bluetooth audio. so for me the 700 wasn't worth older maps, that you can nav to above 5mph without an override installed. I didn't care about voice activation, since I don't really use that anyway. I just set a few speed dials -

I found the little triangle window a perfect place to suction cup my phone dock, and a lot of times - on my commute home, I'll use weather bug to show the radar - (if it's storming) to see what I'm driving into or away from.

To each their own I guess - If the 3 had a HUD, or leather - above the 2, I would of went that route - but as it was the only thing being XM radio - and nav - I went with the 2. saved the $1000 difference.

I can't see paying for radio anyway when you can get it for free - unless you were a traveling salesman or something where you cover a lot of territory. for me - and my 40 mile commute - I didn't need it.

I'm also driving state highways here in indiana - and set the cruise at 55-60mph ... I'm displaying an average overall right now of 49.8 ... my fuelly average is ctrending back up - after an interstate run at 75 hit the overall pretty hard.

    For what it's worth -

I bought the 3 to get nav, xm and entunes. Could I have done without them? Probably, but I wanted the car to be a little more 'special'. The nav is not quite as good as my TomTom (although the Toyota nav lady is more pleasant :) ) but its nice to have it always there when needed. Most of the entune apps don't have much value for me, but I do use the traffic, Pandora and weather apps often. The xm radio wasn't a necessity, but I find I use that for tunes most of the time. The voice commands are also useful and at least for me, it works very well. Its nice having all these functions right there when I get in the car and not have to set anything up.

All that said, I'm glad I spent the $700 and got the 3. I think I'd always be second guessing myself if I hadn't.

thanks for the info. my wife and i both have droids now but we might end up with iphones. we have a portable nav unit. we had two but the other was in her car. i think we r gonna go for the 2. i think the only way we will end up with the 3 is if we have to for the color combo she want, magnetic gray with black interior.

We got a V-2. Instead of spending the money on a a built in Nav, we saved the money and got aftermarket leather with heated seats. The leather install was done by a dealer recommended company. We had them use the same two tone colors they offered with the softex. They did a great job.

I bough a Garmin Nuvi 2455LMT from Costco for Nav. I love it.

You really don't need Entune. The standard 6" display radio has Bluetooth capability so you can play the tunes/Pandora from your phone.

One thing I highly recommend is to get a clear front end mask on it as soon as you can. I waited 10 months too long have it installed. The interstate freeways will kill your front end. Don't wait till the front end gets pitted by road debris.

I chose the 2, because I'm a paranoid "privacy" adict. I don't have a fancy phone with even Bluetooth or anything else. My is an ancient Nokia without GPS tracking. It's a phone. I don't even text.

I use an old TomTom with no connection to the air for navigation.
