    Hi Dave,

Actually the first email I have received from you was today...and I replied to it. Maybe you had the email address wrong?

Also, while its not the case this time since I know I have only received the one email...in many cases spam filters can catch my replies because "warranty" and "extended warranty" are triggers in many filters. So make sure and check your spam folders.

BTW, anyone should also feel free to give me a call. I am generally in my office from 9am-6pm ET, M-F.

Too bad you didn't buy it from Troy. Part of the proceeds go to PC and he is the one that gave us the deal originally. All it would have taken is one quick phone call or e-mail. It would also have helped Troy with his contest.

I'd suggest you cancel the contract you bought and get it from Troy instead.

We're looking into buying a new Prius and my wife drives around 750 a week. We'd also want the 6 yr. 100,000 mile warranty. Do you remember where you got the price on it for around $860?

Please do not use Troy's name or offer as a bargaining tool with other dealers. It is the official Toyota warranty and you will not find a better price.

    Happy New Year!

    • I just took delivery of my first Prius, 2006 model, and I am going to buy the extended warranty offered on this site.

I am not sure I understand the benefit of the prepaid maintenance plan discussed here. The price is $670. When I read through my scheduled maintenance book and review the service plan details, I wonder if I will need to spend even the amount up to $670 on my Prius. It looks like all I do every 5000 miles on a Prius is rotate tires, change oil and filter, and then on the 15000 and 30000 and 45000 mile service I change the air filter too and do some lubrication. Can this possible cost $670 or more over a 4 year period?

I bought the 7/100/$0 deductible from Troy yesterday for the PC quoted price of $990 for my new 2006. I was quoted 7/75/$50 for $1450 from Hamer Toyota in Mission Hills, CA and I passed. Both are the Toyota Financial's Platinum Extra Care Extended Warranty.

A very quick and painless transaction. I even commented that going through Troy is a win-win for everyone. I get a great deal, he gets his, and even Prius Chat get a small finders fee (which I'm sure helps this site stay up and running). We both commented the PC is the best prius info site on the Web, so I was happy to support it and give a little back for all the super information I received here prior to buying my Prius.

Wanna see what Troy looks like?

I got my 2006 Prius yesterday, and this is my first post. I see that there has been some confusion regarding the "money-back guarantee" on the extended warranty, so I thought I would share what I learned from my dealer.

The "finance guy" at my local Toyota dealer offered me the 7/100/$0 plan from Toyota Financial Services for $1995, with a money back guarantee. He said that if I didn't make any claims, then I would get my money back at the end of the 7 years. He showed me two brochures. One was the official Toyota Financial Services brochure describing the extended warranty. The other brochure was from another company (I don't remember the name of the company) describing the money-back guarantee. I said "No thank you." He asked me why not, and I said that the price was too high. He then told me that offering me the money-back guarantee costs him "a lot of money," so he offered me the same extended warranty without the money-back guarantee for $1495. I again said "No thank you", since I knew from reading this forum that I could get it for a lot less.

So what he was doing was bundling the Toyota Financial Services extended warranty with a money-back guarantee offered by another company at additional cost.

I also have a question: Has anyone purchased the prepaid maintenance from Troy, and then used the coupons to get service at a local Toyota dealer? If so, did the local Toyota dealer give you any trouble, such as refusing to accept the coupons or charging you additional fees?

    Prius Enthuiasts,

First, I'd like to say hello to to everyone. I've read this site since I got my prius 7 months ago and love the information. Such a great forum :)

I've been reading up on the Extended warranty offered by Troy and have a question. I bought a 7 year/75k mile extended warranty from the dealership when I originally bought my 2005 Salsa Red Prius. I've decided that it makes no sense not to cancel that warranty and purchase Troy's offer. I called my dealership today to say I wanted to cancel and they informed me that as of October, Once you cancel a warranty, you are not able to re-purchase any warranty from Toyota.

This seems to contradict what I've read on here. Is the dealership lieing to me? I guess the best thing for me to do is to contact Troy directly, but I just wanted to check with you all to see if anyone else has had a similar experience.

Thanks, and I look forward to chattin 'bout hybrids. :)

Just email him he responds very quickly, or give him a quick call. I have not heard of that and a lot of owners have cancelled and bought another in the last few months.

We purchased the extended warranty along with our 2006 Barcelona Red Prius this Monday, but had no problem cancelling it today. According to Troy, who we contacted by e-mail, the warranty can be cancelled within 30 days. When we told our dealer we wanted to cancel, he said we could re-purchase later if we wish, as long as it is before the 3 year/36,000 mile warranty expires.

I suggest you call Toyota Financial directly at (800) 228-8559 to confirm their policy.

The financial manager at our dealership also mentioned that he gets no money for the deal if we don't pay for the warranty, so perhaps that is what is motivating your dealer.

    Hope this helps!

Has anyone responded to the post below with an analysis of dealer cost of maintenance versus the pre-paid maintenance contract. Getting my 1st Prius in 3-4 weeks (2006 Silver "NL" Package)

    3 Questions:
In the list of exclusions listed at the start of this thread I notice a couple of items of concern....
    http://www.toyotafinancial.com/pyv/extende...ponents_nc.html

    1. Why does the platinum warranty "exclude"
    A. Hybrid System Main Relays?
    B. Hybrid Vehicle Battery Module/Pack?

Are these covered somewhere else? like under the main hybrid related parts from the factory?

In the brochure, they show they cover:
I don't own a manual, so I don't know about the emissions warranty they speak of.

    2. In order for the warranty to actually work, do you have to keep detailed meticulous records and have exact timing on all the maintenance to keep toyota from denying your claim?
I've seen some rules whereas the upkeep on the maintenence program costs more than the items your trying to fix?... In other words.. it cost more to follow thier schedule than to not own a warranty at all and pay when something goes wrong. I know that would be excessively risky since there is so much high tech things to go wrong.

    3. Do most do thier own maintenance, or do you buy the extra maintenance package too?
I really respect that the main warranty is a blessing and a "must" to have... I'm just not sure how picky they are at honoring it?
I also have never owned a prius... it sounds quite intimidating to do service on....

If this is not the place, I can start another thread......

:D I just picked up my 2006, Pacakge 7 Prius in barcelona red. Yupe I bouth the car on Friday the 13th ( in Kansas City misouri )When I FIRST started to serously look into buying a Prius TWO DAYS ago, I had pretty much decided I wanted the red with package 3 - but the next day I got a call from a local dealer who had the car (the guy who ordered it backed out), I went for a test drive last night(the Odometer had about 40 on it) and loved it and put $500 down on it to hold it.

I went and paid for it today - got a fairly decent deal on my trade in - about the Kelly BB trade in value for fair condition, and MSRP for the cost of the car. They wanted something like $2400 for the dealerships 3rd party warenty...

... but when I mentioned I could get a Toyota Platinum 10yr/100,000, $0 deductable for $980 (Yeah I only came across this site last night so mi-remebered thenumer a bit), they sold me a Toyota Plat 10yr/100Kmiles/$0 warenty for $980.

The dealership finance guy was real baffled by the price I quoted - He went looking though his books and so forth, meanwhile I was assuming he was going to offer their warenty at a reduced price, but instead got the Real Deal Toyota warenty for $980 - all thanks for the little bit of advanced knoledge about the geat deal on Warentys available here!

Now I just need to learn to program the Hal 9000 - err I mean the Voice activated navigation system.

That's super pgorbas....but remember that PC gets what I am told is a 'nominal' finders fee for each warranty purchased from Troy.

Since I got such super advice before I bought my prius from the forums here, I felt like I'd do my part and buy through Troy.

It cost $$ to manage a site....I just wanted to do my part.

Well I don't want to make you feel bad since its already done, but if the price is not notably cheaper than here... it would be better to support Priuschat instead... it takes alot of energy and money to maintain a well working forum with this many people on it.

Just a word for future purchasers.

P.S. and since you know the dealer is not going to go "below" this price offered here.... why bother and tease him and waste everybodys time as he attempts to pick your brain and counter offer etc?....

We are going to mess around if we are not careful and get this thinged pulled from us if we abuse it and rub it in the dealers faces....better just to stay quiet and tell them you intend to purchase later when you are close to your 3/36K limit and leave it at that.

PC is getting so big now and so popular its going to get really hard to not attract tooo much attention about this from the dealers.. then they will go crying to Toyota for killing all thier big profits and ruin it for us all.

Thanks for your consideration for everyone else as well as yourself. :D

I'm trying to figure out the same thing. Is it worth purchasing the maintenance contract? It seems each oil change is around $30 or less if you go to the local shop. Input on the pre-paid maintenance economics would be much appreciated.
