Need new tires, have had 185/ Goodyear integreties. Guy at Discount tire store says he can put 195/65 tires on these wheels, has a good deal for me. Does this work on the present '06 wheels?

I have 195/60 which gives me almost the same diameter as stock, to preserve speedometer accuracy.
With 195/65 you will be slightly larger than stock, so speedometer will show SLOWER than you actually are, which is not good. I'm also not sure if 195/65 will physically fit without touching anything in turns etc.

I assume you have 15inch wheels as you do not say in your avatar where you are from. That tyres size will be fine but you may loose a small amount of MPG. The more important thing is the type of tyre as this has a big impact on economy, so please let us know the make and model of the tyre then we can make a more informed decision.

There are no clearance problems going as large as 215 width and the speedo will be affected it will actually be more accurate since it over reads speed with the standard tyres. I run 205/55/16 in the UK, and it still over reads by 1.5 mph at 30mph and 3mph at 60mph so at 30 it reads 31/2 and at 60 reads 63

The handling of the car is greatly improved when you go up in tyre width.

Are you saying that 215 will fit and there will be no clearance problems? How about 215/65/16 for example? Speedo will not be affected by these? Very bold statement.

Not what I wrote. I wrote 205/55/16 if I went to 215 section tyres I would go to 215/50/16.

The standard size wheel and tyre for the gen2 Prius in UK/Europe is 195/55/16 going up to 205/55/16 only adds 2.8% to the circumference. 2.8% of 30MPH is only .84mph and the speedo at 30MPH over reads by about 3MPH

Ok, my point was you always need to indicate the profile height, otherwise it does not make sense.

I tried 195 / 65 / R15 and they work . No clearance problems. I prefer 185 size. Better feel on the road! I hope you are installing LRR type tires? H

Yes I agree with your statement but I did include the profile width and rim size in the tyres I am using. The OP does not tell us the rim size and this has a greater bearing on the tyre circumference than the profile. It would be useful if it were mandatory that the avatar of OP's should show at leased the country of origin.

gene4655- Why not go with a Good/Year in the correct size? Assurance Fuel Max are rated H and are a very good LRR tire and will last along time and give excellent FE. Also G/Y Triple Tread may be even better tire? :) H

Harold, I've never liked the Goodyear Integrities that I've had on the car....put up with them for 40,000 m, and hav always liked Michelin. Not much of a reason, maybe, but there it is.

There are two Primacy tyres the MXM4 and the MXV4 plus both versions come with Green X that is the version to go for even better are the Michelin energy saver AS. Read the post under fuel economy it will make your head spin but all the information is there.

    Britprius is correct.

The 195/65/15 is larger than the OE 185/65/15 but since the speedometer reads 2mph too fast with the OE tires, the larger diameter tires will help correct the speedometer so it is more accurate.

The drawback to the larger tire is extra weight and width and possibly more sidewall flex. All of this translates to lower mpg in the Prius. If you use a non-LRR tire or a marginal one then the mpg loss becomes even higher. The tire size is fine and is safer than the OE size IMO but make sure you get a highly-rated LRR tire like the Energy Saver A/S or you'll not be happy with the mpg loss.
