Despite everyone's advice to the contrary we bought the 05. Pk 3

When we got to the dealer they wanted to give it to us for 500 under MSRP not 1000K like we had discussed. We started to leave and they came back. Went back and forth a few times. (I really dislike that negotiating process) We eventually settled at 900 under MSRP. We decided that despite it being last year's model it was worth the 1500 dollar savings ( because of the higher MSRP on the 06 and higher tax liscense AND because my husband's very frugal :D )

Anyway, thanks all for your advice. We're going to get the after market leather. The dealer hooked us up with their guys for their price. 1395. They come to get the seats console etc. Is that a reasonable price?

If anyone is in the So Cal area there is another 05 at the dealership.

I don't think $1395 is the dealer price, it's a normal price, maybe a bit high since others have been getting leather installed for $1000. Don't think the dealer is doing you any favors now, how can you trust them after they offered $1000 off and then renegged when you got there. You should of walked unless they honored the original $1000.

I don't see the point in buying a new 2005 now, and then spending the savings on non-oem leather seats.

Hi all - El Cheapo here aka "frugal husband" -

    Just a general FYI

The 2005 pkg 3 had an MSRP of 23177 (including the almost 300 for mats and first aid kit!) We got it for 22277. Assuming we don't AMT out (self-employed so there's no way to know) we were out the door for around 19177. We also have a shot at the HOV lane sticker. (those numbers are all before the 2k-ish tax and license.)

Add to that the 1000 to 1500 we'll spend on leather and we're out of pocket 23277 to 23777 (plus tax and license, about 2k) before the credit.

I know some of you all think that we should have gone for the '06, but I can't say that a back up camera (My God how did we manage all these years! actually, the idea kinda embarassed me.) and mp3 plug are worth the 900 bucks they would have cost even if we'd gone down to Norwalk or Poway and gotten 500 under msrp. But that 'cause I'm cheap as heck.

Realistically, we only bought this car for the gas mileage. If an avalon or lexus ls got the same mileage and other epa-goodies, we would have gone for those. But, we're happy with our purchase. Might have gotten a few more bucks off the MSRP, but the other '05 they had sold at above (some sucker bought chrome rims at 330 bucks a rim. we made them take them off - did I mention I was cheap?)

Thanks for all your help, this site was invaluable and we'll be buying our warranty here. El Cheapo
