I just brushed my tire and rim this morning on a parking lot curb. Now I'm wondering how much it would cost to repair it. Not a great Sunday. :'(

What? That's just your hubcap right? Even if's your wheel, relax, it's entirely normal? Don't be so uptight! Just sand and polish and maybe a little paint... There's not a Prius on the road with more that 100K that doesn't have some of this on every wheel...

The OP looks to have a US 5 model, which has the 17" aluminum rims, no covers. We have the same.

FWIW, one day (with tears in my eyes lol) I saw one of our rear rims had got a bit chewed on a curb. What I've done so far is daub it over with Toyota Touch-up Pen. We've got the silver car, and the rim color is a perfect match. Does not look too hot when you get close, but a cursory glance from 5~6 feet away and it'll pass. I guess I'm pretty nonchalant about it: my aim was just to arrest corrosion and make it look slightly more presentable.

Our previous second gen Civic Hybrid came with rims that had a machined front face. One got seriously chewed in an accident and the insurance adjusters authorized a machining and re-clearcoating of the front face. Worked out fine, but that wouldn't work with a molded rim.

I scraped my wheels also and the silver touch up paint works great. :)

We have our rims off through the winter, replaced by snow tires. There's a bodywork place that gets a lot of our business: I'll maybe run it by them, what they can do, how much. If it's more than half the price of a replacement rim, I do not know...

Sa177, I feel your pain, I caught a curb this morning as well, with my back passenger tire going slowly around a corner. :( I'll have to try Mendels remedy. But on a bright note my wife was happy that she didn't put the first 'ding' on our new car.

This can be fixed easily for less than $100, google some mobile professionals near your area.

Is corrosion a big deal with those alloy rims?
I also have some minimal cosmetic damage but did nothing about it.

Thanks for all your support. It's my first car and I have been babying it and I'll probably find some shop to get quotes and hopefully repair it w/o a huge cost. If not, I'll be trying to do some DIY with the Silver paint.

Get a bottle of classic silver metallic touch up paint from the dealer, and apply very lightly to damaged area. You'll probably never notice it afterwards.
