A while back I expressed my displeasure with the single-disk cd player and the lack of a multi-disk option. Replies indicated I should abandon old-school methodology and up-date to cutting-edge Apple technology.

Although I'm a Dell (PC) person. I am in the process of (reluctantly) going Apple. So, I have purchased an iPod shuffle, synced a couple of cds, plugged it into the Prius, turned it on, selected iPod as the audio source and now enjoy listening to my music in my v. Well, not quite. Instead, I get silence, a message that says there is a connection error, and a referral to my owner's manual. Page 123 (back section of the audio manual) merely instructs me to do what I have done. Not a thing about a "Connection Error."

My suspicions about Apple confirmed. or what? Yes. it probably is my own ineptitude. Siggestions/solutions will be appreciated.

I'm fairly certain the shuffle simply isn't supported by the head unit. The Nano, classic, touch, and iPhone are all supported, though.

Why not just grab an 8GB or 16GB USB thumb drive?

Yup, check out page 60 of your owner's manual. The shuffle is not supported when connected by USB. If you connect with 3.5mm male to male cable, it will work, but it won't be "integrated" into the head unit.

The shuffle does not have bluetooth. Just plug it in the aux jack using a cable.

Thanks for the info. As I suspected--my ineptitude. One would hope, however, that Toyota will put all relevant information about a specific topic in one place, rather than speading it throughout a manual as they have in the Prius v manual(s)! I guess its time to shop for a Nano. Anyone want to buy a Shuffle? No, I'll just use it to lull me to sleep on long airline flights (until I loose it).

I actually just went to the Toyota owner's site and searched iPod in the manuals for the audio system. Downloaded the pdf, pressed command + f, typed "shuffle", and there it was. :)

I'd also advise you to just connect via the mini jack to AUX input, rather than the Apple connector.

I use my iPod Shuffle with the included double end cable that was included with my Prius. Mine was in the glove compartment.

There really is not much advantage to using the Apple connector, and you lose some control over the iPod. Just plug it into the AUX input via the earphone jack.

I too was very disappointed to find that my new Prius does not have any hard disc storage - a retrograde step.

Undeterred, I decided it was time to upgrade my audio so I bought an iPod classic. It connected fine etc.

Tonight, whilst it was on shuffle, it suddenly stopped functioning, and the Toyota screen can be seen (darkened) on the iPod. It is locked completely. Putting it on charge does not solve the problem, nor synching it with my computer. It is completely unresponsive.

So, now I have one non functioning iPod which I paid £200 for in order to deal with the lack of hard disc storage. Does anyone know how to recover this problem and is there something wrong with Toyota's system?
