I am getting really bad mileage and the dealership told me it is because I need a fuel injection cleaning and a belt replaced, $350.00 total of work. Does this sound reasonable and if not does anyoneknow if a good service place in Boca Raton FL or how I can get a coupon discount for the Deerfield Beach dealership?

If you are a Costco member check out Costcoauto.com. You can get a service coupon to a participating Toyota dealer if there is one nearby.

What is the "really bad mileage"? Started with 11k and now 60k in 10 months? 50k miles in 10 months?

Is this a joke? What miles per gallon (mpg) does your car indicate on the dash? Use the "Trip" button on the steering wheel. You get several, I use Trip B and reset the mileage calculation on B by pressing the button until it clears when I fill up.

The manual way (non-automated) is to record the miles on the car at fillup, record miles when you fillup again, take the difference (say 45o miles) and divide by gallons bought (fill it to the top). If you bought 10 gallons, it would be 450/10=45 mpg

No joke at all. When I first bought the car I was getting 500 miles to the gallon, now I get under 400.

You must be talking miles about a full tank.

    Florence,

Try the Gen II forum. Owners of the same vintage car may have experienced the same problem and have a solution for you.

It could be your 12V battery going bad. From what I read on the Gen II ('04-'09) and Gen III ('10 and on), the computer will run the engine more often to keep recharging your 12V battery. That typically explains a loss of mpg's on the older cars (or so they say).

It could also be the traction (hybrid) battery going bad. I would think that the hybrid system in your car is still under warranty.

I would take it to another dealer and get a second opinion.

Another thread moved to the appropriate Gen II forum out of the Prius v forum.

With it being an '08, I am surprised nobody suggested checking the +12 battery. It's about time for that thing to fal. there are about a million posts on this subject. What is the +12 battery voltage when the car is off? If it's less than 10.5, time for an Optima Yellowtop!
I also agree, try another dealer, ask the same questions, see what they say!

Like others have mentioned, check the 12v battery. A question to the group: if the OP is on the highway most of the time, would you suspect alignment issues as well?

The problem is either new brakes, new tires an old 12v battery. It could be that he is driving on the hwy so much...166 miles a day average every day for 10 months.

New member here, and apparently I posted in the wrong forum. How do I move a thread to the proper forum?
