Hello, I just bought a new prius c. In the quick reference guide it says to link trips to reduce engine cold starts. What does that mean? How do I do it? Thanks in advance!

I could be completely wrong, but I think what it means is combine your trips like going grocery shopping and then picking up your kid from school on the same outing. When you just start the car, the mileage is pretty low for a hybrid, but once the engine gets warm, MPG increases. I think that's what they mean.

But I am not 100% sure, I could be wrong. Any other comments are appreciated! :)

Is there a mode that will just show the total mileage and the total MPG avg. You know, where it doesnt always start at 0.0

Annie, you're right. They're just talking about doing all your trips together so that the engine stays relatively warmed up. dolfanpete, if you press the Trip button on the steering wheel, you'll see two average MPGs. If you press and hold the Trip button while it's displaying Trip A or Trip B, it will reset the meter, and track the average until you reset it again.

when you say each specific trip, do you mean every point at which you shut the car off and start up again?

When it's on ODO (as opposed to Trip A or Trip B), it is showing the mileage from the moment you turn on the car, to the moment you turn of the car. It automatically resets each time you start the car.

Trips A and B average all of the driving you do between when you manually reset it at the beginning, and manually reset it at the end. It records whatever you want it to record. I use Trip A for each tank average and Trip B for overall average.

    That's from Fuelly.com

It's based on number of miles driven since previous fuel up, and number of gallons of gas purchased, so it varies slightly from what the car computes itself.

Thanks for the info! BTW since the complimentary full tank of gas I have driven 70 miles and it still shows full! That has to be good. No?
