I ordered mine mid-November from I-5 Toyota in Centralia, WA.

The sales manager wrote my name on a dry erase board (they didn't ask for a deposit) and took my basic information down. He asked when I wanted it delivered, and I said "ASAP in January." He said, "okay. We might have to trade around with other dealerships for it." I didn't hear much from them until I got a call before Christmas: "Your car is being built. First or second week of January."

I got exactly the color and package I wanted on January 4th (the first day I could go down to pick it up), for MSRP, plus less tax than I'd have spent in Olympia. (Thanks Henry!)

    Top that.

The normal warranty that comes with the car gets used first. After the original warranty expires I have a choice to pay for things covered by the extended warranty or not. Obviously if it's a big expense I'll use the extended warranty. As long as I make no claims against the extended warranty I get a full refund at the end, 84 months or 100,000 miles. The dealer/distributor in Hawaii is separate from the rest of U.S. so this is probably not the same deal as the discounted extended warranty. I imagine they make their money by using my money for 7 years since it didn't cost them anything in claims. I also have the choice to get a prorated portion back anytime I decide to cancel.

I put my order in the day after Thanksgiving and picked it up on the 1st of December.
My son in Colorado Springs had to wait 6 months (2004). My youngest son was looking on the internet and got it the same day; a week before Thanksgiving (05).
So we have an 04,05 and 06.

I put down a deposit at a dealer on 12/15. Later that night, on my way home from work, I stopped by a different dealer just to see if they had an '06 sales brochure (I was going to wrap it up and give it as a gift). 45 minutes later, I had an '06 Driftwood Pkg #8 stored away with a big red bow on top to give to my daughter for Christmas.

The next day (12/16) I called both dealers and told them that I would like a 2006 Silver Pkg #8 for myself with a delivery date not sooner than 1/1/06. I picked it up yesterday 1/9/06.

    Both were simple and easy.

I ordered my 05 package #6 salsa red on July 11th. Told them my lease on my current car ends Jan 13th 06. In oct. I stopped by and chat with my salesperson, find out no more 05's will be made after mid-nov. I was bumped to a 06 package #7. Was not sure what color I wanted now, so I had a few choices. It came in as a silver and I picked it up on sat the 7th of jan. So far so good.

I placed my order in early September with Longo Toyota, with a $500 refundable deposit. According to my sales guy (Jules "JJ" Lee) I was 88th on the overall list at that point. Right around Christmas I was second in line for my specific car. I got the call yesterday. I'll be picking up my Seaside Pearl Package 3 tonight.

At the time I gave an ordered list of three colors. Then I get a call in early-mid December saying my second and third color choices were available. But I talked it over with the lady, and realized that if I'm spending $24,000 it should be exactly what I want (just graduated from college, it's my first major purchase). So I opted to wait for the Seaside Pearl. I get it tonight! (hopefully)

My friend ordered his over month ago and I was so impressed after I drove his I went to the local dealer on Saturday for giggles. He had one in stock and unclaimed. Since it was sort of an unplanned purchase, my wife and I took our time deciding and just for the fun of it I made a few calls to see if any other dealerships had another option available. One dealership actually laughed at me for asking!! We went back Sunday and yep, they still had it... so we bought it. MSRP only.
Just so happens they had exactly what we wanted.
    Lucky??? ;)

White 2006, option #8 with the beige color leather. I know they don't call it beige... but that's what it looks like to me.

I haven't made a deal yet, but of the first two quotes I've requested I've gotten an offer for a Black package 7 at 300 under msrp, and a White or Seaside, no mention of price since I was specific about color. These were in stock. Seems that in Northern VA you can get less than MSRP on anything sitting on the lot. I plan to hit up about 10 dealers for quotes and have a little bidding war before I pick up my Black package 6 in March. (Waiting for 55 degrees for the invisible bra ;) )

that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Ordered mine in early Dec. It arrived in port 12/27, to my dealer Jan. 3. Picked it up Jan. 4. Got exactly what I wanted (pkg 6, Barc. Red, beige interior). The only unexpected was floor mats for $186, which I kept.

A good experience overall, if you ignore the other 2 dealers from whom I ordered in Sept. and who told me they could only get me a package 7. Either uninformed or liars.

Ordered our 2006 Prius Pkg 3 in mid November - took delivery today!

Barcelona Red is gorgeous and Oak interior is very nice.

The car delivered is actually a Pkg 4: dealer *said* that he didn't realize pkg 3 wasn't available in TN. We negotiated and paid only the pkg 3 MSRP price.

We skipped paying $186 for the floormats. We're off to Wal-Mart to buy some all-weather mats.

We love this car - only trouble so far is negotiating who gets to drive it!

Thanks to all who have posted here - we've been lurking for awhile - very helpful, enjoyable information. We think Prius owners are the "enlightened" among us! ;)

"We skipped paying $186 for the floormats. We're off to Wal-Mart to buy some all-weather mats."

I thought about skipping them, but then thought maybe the back mat (in the hatch area might not be included) and I didn't think I could find something like that at Costco. Did skipping the floormats also exclude the back mat? Just curious.

Yes - the four floormats plus the back hatch mat were ceremoniously taken out by the dealer after he asked "are you SURE you don't want those nice floormats (already in the car, ready for delivery). Boy - those dealers have their drama scenes worked out beautifully! :)

My car didn't come from the factory with mats, which confused both him and me. Because of this, he offered to sell them "at cost", which was $170 for the floor mats, cargo mat, and cargo net. Expensive still, but less than what I was prepared to pay. Aftermarket mats never match and never stay in place. The Toyota embroidered ones really finish the car. Still have to scotchgard them though. I was going to go the eBay route, but this was about the same price and ten times easier.

Also, Longo offers a free Sirius reciever/installation/9 months service, which I'm getting installed on Saturday. Might be a Longo-only offer, as my dealer said that Longo's owner is on Sirius's board.

Our wait was zero - found one on the lot, which had only been there a day or two. All of the deal went as it should have. Good luck.

You shouldn't have to wait too long these days to get a 2006 Prius. I called my local dealer and told him what I wanted (color/pkg number) on Dec 28th, and the car was on the lot on Jan 6th. I took delivery on Jan 11th (I actually had to wait for the title to arrive and the Simonizing to be done.)

My 2005 Prius I bought in December of 2004 (when there were literally none around) and got the color and pkg I was looking for right off the lot (calling around does wonders.) It actually took longer to get my 2006 than the 2005 - go figure.

I'm now the proud owner of a 2005 (pkg. 6) & 2006 (pkg. 7) Prius both in Driftwood Pearl!

Preordered Silver Pine Mica package #6 in October for January delivery from Daytona (FL) Toyota.

Was told two weeks ago that there are no package #6 cars being built (which I knew was hogwach from lurking this board).

Went to DeLand Toyota last Sunday, they found a Super White #6 alloted to Brunswick, Georgia, made the call and got the car. The dealer driver went up this morning to pick it up and I will get it at 0900 tomorrow.

    MSRP, no toyoguard, yes floormats.

When I called Daytona Toyota to get my $500 deposit refunded they still were adament that package 6 was not even being built yet! They did refund my deposit immediately at least.

    Regards.

Congratulations! You must really like Driftwood. it's been my second choice, but gaining ground fast on Seaside blue. But the "chromed" center bar will stand out more on the blue, so mebbe not...

I'd like to see Prius registration figures for MA and CA (and OR and WA), or at least the areas around Boston, Seattle, Portland, SF and LA.
