How much should I pay for new Prius C

I think it depends on the market area you are in. I paid 22K out the door, possibly even a little more (but i had negative equity in my trade-in, so that amount was added to my "total"). Have you tried searching online for prices in your area?

 

It would be helpful to know what trim level you're looking at. There are also other threads about this if you poke around a bit.

 

Ditto what others have said - there's a fair bit in the forum on pricing. Some of us pretty much paid MSRP because demand is so high (so we did our negotiating over trade-in value, etc). Others (lucky dogs!) live in areas where there is quite a bit of room for negotiating, especially if you have a couple dealers near you competing for your dollar. Your interest in taking a trim/color combo on the lot may also affect your bargaining power compared to wanting something very specific that has to be ordered (waving hand in the air ;-)

 

Like the others say, which model are you looking at? One, Two, Three, or Four! You may want to test drive and take a look before purchasing. US World News Report Prius C, gives you info on what you should pay for Prius C based on what others are paying if you know which model you want. Also Edmunds.com indicates what others are paying (although it is a bit on the higher side). These sources also provide info on what the dealer's costs are for this vehicle which helps give you negotiating info. Don't be in a rush and do your research. Once you know which model you want, do some internet searching with different dealers. (Yes, some will outright lie to you about what they have in stock and others will be honest so if it sounds too good to be true be suspicious). Good Luck!

We got our Prius C2 for $20K OTD

Steel rims and all weather floor mats.

Since then I upgraded to alloy wheels, WeatherTech floor mats, rear bumper protector and cargo tray.

I just got this quote today

Trade- 8,000.00
Trade Difference- 15,661.00
Sales Tax- 978.81

Total- 17,053.81

So basically sticker is 25,100 on a Prius C 4 and ignoring the trade, they will sell it to me for $23,661.

My trade is a 2007 Prius with 108,000 miles with a lot of dents, scratches, needs tires and some other work.

The test ride of the C 4 today was as expected: a step down from my current Prius in terms of solidity and comfortableness, but I never use the back seats so I have more Prius than I ever use right now. I think the C will be just fine. But still thinking on this.

 

What other work does your Prius need? As long as it runs well, I bet a lot of potential buyers would be willing to overlook the superficial damage for a good deal that is still a lot better than what the dealer will give you. Edit: just checking KBB.com and $8000 seems like it could be about right for trading in a baseline 2007 Prius in the described condition.

Though the best value for you is probably to repair your current Prius. I would weigh that cost vs the value a new car loses as soon as you sign on the dotted line.

Edit: If you want to know if the price is good, all you have to do is call a few other dealers to see if anyone will beat it. The dealer can sell below invoice and still make a profit for two reasons... First, Toyota will pay them for having sold the car. Second, if they are close, you will probably take the vehicle to them for service. As a rule of thumb, you should never pay more than invoice for a car that is sitting on the lot at several dealers in your area.

I know they can sell the Prius C 4 with moon roof for as low as $22,700 (including freight charge but not tax nor the $80 in paperwork fees ), cause that is what I payed for mine. I haven't seen anyone post a lower number. I knew I was getting close to the lowest when dealers started refusing to match it. Also, getting a good pre-approved loan from a credit union can save you about $600 in interest.

 

It needs tires, a front-end alignment, transmission flush, and they said brakes are almost ready for replacement. I know you can always get between $1,000 and $2,000 more selling privately. I'm in no rush so I may try that route. It's been a really good car, very very reliable... but I get antsy for a new car every 5 years. Can't help it.

 

You might want to do the math on leasing your next car instead of buying.

 

Leasing: I put 22,000 miles on per year and all the leases I've seen really penalize you for that much. I don't think it would work having a lease. I wish I didn't have such a long commute.

I commute 170 miles round trip to work every day. So around 40K+ miles a year.

Now that's a long commute!!
