I just got my 2006 HK (pkg 6). I've successfully connected my Motorola V551 Bluetooth phone to the Prius. I have my cell service with Cingular. Two concerns:

    (1) I can't get the phone book to transfer from the phone to the car and
    (2) I can't use the buttons on the steering wheel to complete a call. If I press the button with the face on it, the car will prompt me for a number. I speak a number to the car which it correctly understands by repeating the number and displaying it. It then prompts me to push the talk button on the steering wheel It should dial the number at that point, but nothing happens.

The only way I can dial a number is to use the keys on the phone itself and then when I press the talk key on the phone, the bluetooth works with the car to allow me to use the car speaker and microphone.

One more question. I can't dial a number and have the phone plugged into the recharger. The call won't go thru. As using the bluetooth seems to drain the phone battery quicker, is it possible to keep the phone plugged into the charger and still use the phone with the car via bluetooth?

I spent about an hour today with the Toyota Dealer's tech guru. He didn't have any suggestions as he hasn't been able to transfer his address book into the 2006 Prius or call using the buttons on the car steering wheel either. I've spoken to Cingular and Motorola and they claim the problem lies with the Toyota Bluetooth Kit found in the Prius. Any ideas????

    Thanks!

I know on the V551 you cannot transfer the entire phonebook. You might be able to transfer one contact at a time, can't remember. You will be better off to fix a drink, and enter them in one at a time. Dosen't take that long.

Yes, it's a one-at-a-time deal. You may also need to disconnect the "handset" connection before you can initiate a transfer.

Also watch for entries on your phone with more than one number. Mine made a mess of things the first time I sync'd to the car. The car picked up the 1st # in the directory instead of my designated primary number. So I tried to call a colleague at work on his cellphone and ended up with his wife at home...

Thought I'd update the group on my findings. I spoke to Cingular and Motorola and they thought the phone just needed to be updated. I took the phone into the Cingular store for the update. The update did nothing to change the way the phone interfaced with the car. Then I called Toyota. They referred me to Toyota.com (click on Prius, bluetooth, let's talk) and the recommended phones pop up. The Motorola V551 isn't listed as a compatible phone, so I'm considering the Razr as an upgrade. Hopefully that will be 100% compatiable with the 2006 Prius and I can use the steering wheel buttons. FYI, since the 2006 Prius uses the bluetooth via the stereo rather than the navigation pkg in the 2004/2005 Prius, the compatiable phones maybe different.

Out of curiosity what doesn't work? I have Cingular and a Motorola V551 and it works fine, except I have to transfer the phonebook entries one by one. But the steering wheel buttons work perfectly on my '04.

I certainly hope that's not the case. The car kit is still Denso and handsfree, at least, should function properly.

The Motorola V551 works with the 2004/2005 Prii just fine. The bluetooth kit is based on the navigation package. The 2006 Prius uses a different bluetooth kit which works off the stereo. In the 2006, the bluetooth connection is made, but the steering wheel buttons don't work for some applications.
