I have a 2012 V/3 that we have had since Jan. My understanding of the EV drive system is that if the drive battery is charged enough, the car is less than 43mph, and power demand is low (less than the first line on the power meter) the EV drive works without the gas engine assist.

Yesterday, with the A/C off and the drive battery 1 bar from fully charged and decelerating through 43mph, the EV system cycled on then off (gas assist off then on) 3 times as I came to a stop. This is the first time in 9 months that anything like this has happened.

Is this a freak once in a lifetime incident or something I should be concerned about enough to take it to the dealer and have them tell me they can't duplicate the problem? Has something like this happened to any other members out there?

    Thanks in advance.

    I've seen on few occasions.
I would expect the car to kick into EV mode based on all above conditions and it would not happen, car would stay on ICE. I thought that the engine coolant temp was low at that time

Question: Did you do a long constant recharging descend prior to this?

While driving around Yellowstone NP this summer, I noticed some interesting behavior of the hybrid system. The battery symbol will show a full charge at 75% SOC. If it continues to charge past 75% duing the recharging descend, it starts to revup the engine as you brake more. I'm guessing to dissipate some of the overcharge. As I continued to slow down below 46 mph, the engine stayed on until I stopped recharging (either by stopping or releasing the brake pedal).

No, just normal driving around Vegas. This is the only time I have noticed this. The car has about 13000 and I have put about half of that on (my wife the other half). Drove it today and in the same area with roughly the same conditions the car operated as expected on the EV system.

May have been just a stray electron in the computers -- I don't know.

    Thanks.
