The touchscreen on my 07 Prius has quit working. All the screens are visible, but it's mostly not responding to touch except in a few limited areas. On the climate or display screens, I can touch at the very upppermost edge of the screen and change some of the corresponding settings visible at the bottom of the screen. Can't control the fan on the climate control, only the temp from the steering wheel buttons. Anyone else had the touchscreen go out like this, know what might be going on, or know of any fixes?? The car only has about 30K on it - doesn't seem like a major system like this should be failing.

Yes, there has been a problem with a solder joint on a number of screens. I suggest you search the forum to see if your symptoms match.

Just an update on this - turns out I had to replace the entire unit, to the tune of about $1600. Doesn't seem right that a major system like this would go out on a 5 year old car with only 30K miles on it. I was advised if they ever issue a recall on these MFDs, I would be able to get a refund for the cost of replacement.

I have been researching and reading the forums regarding my 08 touchscreen failure. Hesitant to tackle the soldering project, not getting any love from Corporate Toyota, not wanting to flush $$ down the dealership - I ran across someone's recommendation of a mech in Tujunga, near Los Angeles. Avi has a supplier and got a unit w/nav the same day - just under $700 incl installation. Of course that's for a used one, but with a 3 month warranty confidence is high. He specializes in Prius repairs. Avi's Advanced Automotive 818-352-0997.

That sounds like a good deal - the unit I got was also a reconditioned one, not brand new (which would have been something outrageous, 6 or 7K??? if I recall correctly), and with installation at the dealership cost over twice what you've been quoted. Hope that works out for you.
