    Purchased car on 12/13/05
Sent application in for HOV Stickers on 12/14/05
Checked on VIN registration late December. It was not in system. DMV lady said it could take over a month to get into system. She said they were just finishing November registrations.
    Check cashed on 1/3/06
    1/9/06 still waiting for stickers.

Purchased my 06 on 12/7/05 and got my sticker today (1/9/06). Given the holidays, I'm glad I got it so quick ;)

Just got my car last night. Dealer said that they mail their papers to the DMV.

    What should I do?
    a) just mail my application now
    B) mail it when my papers are processed.
    c) bother them to expedite the submission of the papers

    What did everybody else do?

I just mailed mine in. However, my dealer did say that they sent in their paperwork electronically to the DMV. In your case, you should maybe wait a few days until dealer confirms that the paperwork has been sent in. You do not want your paperwork to be rejected. I vote for both B and C.

    Hey there, justinc.

I finally got mine the other day and I did option "a", not knowing that the dealer sent in the paperwork about 2 weeks later...

    hope this helps

I'm in the same jam, tjbrooks! I have my transponder (I'm in the bay area and had to do that first) and I know my paperwork was submitted by the dealer last Friday. So...do I get my application in the mail and in line now, and figure the DMV will have processed the VIN by the time they get to the stickers? Or wait a little longer so they don't get to the sticker first and then reject the application? I think I'm leaning towards option b, so I'm going to mail it Friday, if I can force myself to be that patient. Ugh!

But from huh's post, maybe the timing is less critical....? Ah, what a dilemma!

Well, so much for my praise of Longo Toyota. Because they're so damn huge, they don't send out the paperwork to the DMV until two weeks after the car is bought. But she said to send in the paperwork to the DMV, and the DMV will process the car when they recieve the paperwork from Longo. But it's hard to believe anything she said when she added that the process of getting the carpool stickers takes 90 days. So I will just send mine in today, and sit nervously for the next three months. That is, unless they approve the extra 25,000, then I'll (probably) be fine. Good luck everyone else

Quick question: I just got my Seaside Pearl, package 6 - Yeah! I love it! I was wondering how long it takes to get into the DMV system if the dealer (Valencia Toyota) send the info electronically.

    Thanks!

You can call (916) 657-8035, if you have nerves of steel, or a drink nearby... ;)
It took an hour and 45 minutes to get through the first time, and 40 min. the second (busy all the time.)

The first person told me that there is no way for them to look anything up at all and that I should "just be patient." He also told me that fewer than 35,000 HOV stickes were issued. I knew then that he knew nothing... he hung up before could ask to speak to someone else.

Long story short, the second clerk was able to find my VIN and at first said that my registration hasn't been paid by the dealership yet. Eventually she found that it was (I had proof faxed to me by the dealer) and said that because of my HOV application, everything, including processing of registration, plates etc. gets confused, because it all now goes to the Special Processing Unit.

However, the best part was that I found out that you can request a callback from the special processing unit, which I promptly did (my $8.00 check has been cashed) We shall see if they call back.

I sent in my check on December 15, it cleared my bank on January 5th, and I received my paperwork from the DMV on January 10th.

In my case, I bought a used 2004 Prius that already had Clean Air decals. The DMV simply sent an updated registration card, basically transferring the sticker number from the seller to me.

Anybody know if the stickers could be transferred to another Prius, should I decide to purchase a newer one before January 1, 2008 but after the 75,000 stickers have been issued?

They are not transferable. They stay with the car that they are registered to.

In response to the emails regarding the length of time it takes to process the DMV HOV stickers; I just recently spoke with the phone contact ((800) 242-4450) at the CA Air Resources Board (directly linked from the DMV website for info regarding the stickers) and I was told not to worry about receiving a sticker within the 50,000 range. He said that applications already received far exceed that number and no Cal Trans study has yet been performed.

Instead he said that the DMV has reserved the right to restrict Hybrid's use of the carpool lane in congested areas at a later time as an alternative to the "50,000 sticker study." He said that although there are far more than 75,000 eligable vehicles on the streets of CA, he did not expect the 75,000 number to be reached for at least another 1-2 months, barring a rush by those with eligible cars who have not yet applied (probably unlikely given the publicity this topic has already received). I was told that my vehicle's (Black #8) arrival date of early Febuary should not be a problem for receiving the stickers, but that at any time, my use of carpool lanes could be restricted (when I asked which areas would be impacted, I was told that it would be "pretty obvious", the most congested areas). He also emphasized more than once the sunset provision of 2008 attached to this legislation (I bet they've had a lot of angry callers who have bought hybrids thinking they had a lifetime of carpooling ahead!).

I'd be interested to hear if anyone has received any recent information contrary to this for California. My apologies if I am rehashing discussions that have already taken place.

At this rate, I might not make it in time. I'm on a 3-month waiting list
    for a pkg#6 since january 9.

I read yesterday in another HOV-lane thread which had a link to an article that the DMV averages somewhere in the neighborhood of 200 sticker applications per week. I'll see if I can find it...nevermind, search function isn't working.
