I have a 2005 Prius that I love and brag about all the time. It has 56,000 miles on it.

I trust my dealer and they've performed several free warranty jobs....headlight adjuster, inverter pump (which they called me about during a routine oil change and volunteered to do), of course the brake pedal thing.

I replaced the 12 v. battery in July and get oil changes regularly.

The other day, I was driving to work thinking about the payroll that I had to do in the morning and the grant application that had to be postmarked that day. All of a sudden, the car lost power and the triangle exclamation point and squealing alarmy noise went off. I glided into Walmart parking lot and called AAA. After having to wait a couple of hours, it got to the dealership.

They called and said they would be replacing the "master hybrid computer" all covered under warranty. The paper said "890001 hybrid veh control computer."

ANYWAY, I am really afraid to drive the car now. It's been working fine since the work but I have lost confidence. Especially since while I was waiting to hear from them, I saw lots of stuff online about people having work done to fix Priuses that conked out and then having it conk out again.

Does anyone have any words of comfort? Thanks!!!

Any car can break down at any time. I see no need to worry that yours will have any new problem.
The problem with looking online is that only people with problems bother to post.

Hey, thanks! I never thought of it that way. Good thing to keep in mind.

They already found the problem, fixed it, chances are real good that specific problem will not happen again!
You could worry about the rest of the cars parts, which have not broken yet.
Or, you could just enjoy the car and not worry about it.

    I prefer the latter!

    What, me not worry?!

I guess since I had my '89 Mustang for 17 years without having to get towed, I got spoiled. But back in the old days, if your car broke down, your dad or boyfriend would show up with jumper cables or duct tape!

I even remember opening the hood of my '65 Grand Prix and hitting the solenoid with a broom handle that I kept in the car for that purpose.

If you worry about all the little things that can go wrong in life, there will be no enjoyment of life whatsoever. As it was said above, the car simply broke down. It was fixed under warranty. Don't worry about it, simply enjoy it and don't sweat the small details.

I feel for you as I am still leery of making left turns after a semi ran a red light.

unfortunately for you, you were one of the very few unlucky ones. most of these cars are very very reliable. toyota has some of the highest reliability ratings, even on hybrids. a well known shop in boston, click and clack on pbs, used to say, 'when we see a prius go by, we think, there goes another lost boat payment!'. relax and enjoy, you have a 99.99999% chance that nothing else will happen. i wish my boyfriend would show up when things went wrong.:p all the best!

It sounds like you need to update your boyfriend :) Get one with a techstream and a computer this time.

Thanks! I guess the idea that it will just suddenly die is disconcerting, but then again I guess it could happen to any car. I feel better already.

Well, at this stage in my life, getting towed is probably less of a hassle!

You got the right idea now. Anything that is man made will eventually break down. However Toyota is one of the best brands out there imo.

Concerning your stage of life, I have known several in their later years (stage of life) that joined once again and were very happy. There is always hope, keep your chin up. The best is yet to come.

One with techstream and a laptop would be a godsend ;)

Keep smiling and have a great day!
