everyone knows and raves about the fantastic fuel economy of the PiP...

However. Have you managed to get poor mpg out of it?

I tired the other evening and only managed 22 mpg. I was able to easily get 7 or 8 mpg out of my old car...

Anyone managed to get worse? The atkins engine, the battery and fuel saving logic built in are tough to beat!!!

That wouldn't be too tuff to accomplish in NY-
Just drive like 99.999% of the other idiots on the road here... floor it like it's the start of the Indy 500 at every green light, and skid up to every red light and stop sign you hit and do 85+mph on the Long Island Expressway!

flooring it up long/steep inclines w/tailers behind you is the only unpleasant aspect of the PiP even in PWR mode... wonder what mpg that would get you.

285 miles from Laughlin to Orange County with the cruise set to 80 and I only got 48mpg. Got 52 on the way out there.

PapaSB, good luck with volunteers. Most of us would probably sacrifice an arm or leg before intentionally trying to hypo-mile.

If you floor it, it doesn't matter whether you are in PWR or ECO mode. Those modes are just tweaking the throttle offset vs. power curve, but the endpoints are the same. Floor it, and you get all the electric motor and the ICE combined can deliver, regardless of the mode.

Well I actually started out with 24 mpg and stayed in the 20's and 30's for a while. I suspect it is because the dealer took forever talking about very basic things while we had AC running on a hot afternoon. As well as my uncontrollable urge to play with power mode on the way home. (The battery was pretty much dead, I wanted to take the car home and didn't want to wait 3 hours for their level 1 charge, so power mode it was.)

After almost 500 miles I finally got it up to 83 mpg lifetime avg.

What is the opposite phrase of "hypo-mile"?

I was going for the opposite of hyper-mile. As in hypotension is the opposite of hypertension...(sorry, my background is in medicine and couldn't resist)

How about diaper-mile, because you just poop all over your mileage!

Ah. Like diabetes. Hypo - low blood sugar. Hyper - high blood sugar.

    Hyper-mile and Hypo-mile.

    Nice.

Well, you can start by sitting in your car outside of a store for an hour at a time with the AC/Heat cranked to full while your spouse shops.

Also, lower your tire pressure to about 20 psi.

Funny, I was thinking to myself just yesterday about trying to stay in PWR mode only, and see how bad things can get. I was inspired by the fact that my wife does not have the hyper-mile touch, and prefers to stay in PWR as she is afraid of the car being too slow (no matter how many times I have explained this).

I know the worst I personally have gotten was in the 40's (and that was in ECO, while driving as usual). Must have been a really bad route, and to much highway travel.

Isn't this car amazing? I mean, what other car gets this kind of mileage at 80 mph?

I can only estimate by looking at the real time mpg meter when I had depleted the battery, and this was only for a small portion of a trip, but I probably got about 15-20 mpg hauling up a 6% grade going from 0 to 50 mph over the course of about 3/4 miles. I would have taken the hill at more of a snails pace, but it was commute time and everyone was in "bat-out-of-hell" driving speed mode. In my old 1995 civic, or in most any other car, I doubt I would have done better than 10 mpg on this stretch.
