I bought a Treo 700W 2 days ago and am already using it with the Bluetooth system in my Prius ('05 #6). Having been a longtime Palm OS user, I admit I'm a bit slow on the uptake with Windows Mobile 5.0.
I can't figure out how to specifically download the "phone book" from Windows Mobile end of things. The car side of the issue is easy. "Pushing" the phone book is the hard part to figure out.
If anybody has an resources, I would very much appreciate it.
    Thanks,
    Craig
(We are proud owners of a 2001 and a 2005 Prius)

I believe you're the first person who has reported having a 700W on this board so you might not get an immediate answer. In the meantime, you might want to try doing a search using the words "Treo" and "650" as there a number of threads on using the 650 with the Prius. One of them might give you a few ideas to try (although obviously that device has the Palm OS).

Also, did you look at the manual? I'm pretty sure you first have to make sure the car is ready to receive phonebook entries (i.e. "transfer phonebook"). Then you need to go through the steps applicable to "beam" from your device.

I would be interested to know also , as I have been waiting for this phone- and just saw it at the CES show in Las Vegas -The Treo with Windows Pocket PC (actually now called Windows Mobile 5) but one glitch was that it did not include wifi- you have to add an SD card for that- unless you want to use the EVDO and pay Verizon quite a ton of money every month- I am just an occassional wifi user.

I had heard there were problems transfering the phone book from the Treo 650 (Palm OS based) from one of our Orange County Prius Club members who I saw on the CES floor. It is amazing who you run into at these huge conferences!

From what I could see by going through all of those phones listed on the Verizon site, NONE of them have phonebook transfer capability with the Denso system installed in Toyotas!

The Nokia 6256i and Samsung SCH-i730 have phonebook transfer capability with the Denso system.

Maybe spec's have changed for the '06 but on the Verizon site listed above in this thread the Nokia 6256i says N/A and the SCH-i730 says 'pending' against the Toyota Denso item.

Have you personally tested the ability to transfer successfully the entire phonebook with these models?

Uh no, I think I would find it to be somewhat of a useless exercise (not to mention a financial burden) to go out and buy every BT phone Verizon releases and test each one for PB transfer capability with my Prius. However, I believe a Prius owner on this board (and am sure a Prius owner on another board) has been able to transfer contacts from the i730 to the Prius. Re the 6256i, owners of several Lexus models (same Denso BT kit) have reported that they were successful in transferring their phonebooks to their cars (one contact at a time, though). The key here is OPP. If the phone has that profile and has not otherwise been crippled (applicable to both handsets in question), there should be no problem transferring contacts from the phone to the Prius.

OK, yes I can see that they might allow individual contacts to be transferred as many models in this thread appear to allow but I thought that the big gripe amongst users is the inability to transfer the complete phonebook.

The Verizon site lists a column with a title of "PB Transfer" which I assumed (maybe wrongly) meant 'phonebook transfer' and the Toyota Denso row in each document indicates either N/A or pending. As no-one here seems to have had success with transferring a total phonebook then can we not assume that data to be correct at least in relation to the models listed?

I am encountering also another problem here in Australia as the models of phones offered (and the carriers) are different to what is available in Nort America and this compounds the problem. I have asked Toyota here to provide me with na recommendation but so far that seems 'too hard'.

Thanks for your feedback tag, I will continue to see if there is a solution somewhere. What solution is available in Japan for example - anyone?

Well, I'm fairly certain that when the VZW chart says "Yes" in the "PB Transfer" column, it means the phone has the capability EITHER to transfer the entire PB at once OR to transfer contacts one at a time. IOW, as long as it has been determined that the phone has ANY kind of PB transfer capability, "Yes" appears in that column.

OTOH, I have absolutely no idea how such a determination is made. For example, are the data in the charts based on user reports, manufacturer testing, or testing by VZW personnel?

    Hey tag,

I guess I must be looking at different vzw charts at : http://dts.vzw.com/pdf/Nokia_carkit_6256i.pdf and at http://dts.vzw.com/pdf/Samsung_BT_SCH-I730...rt%20v1%204.pdf because neither of these says 'yes' in the pb transfer column.

Could you pass me the URL to the charts you have looked at because it is just such anomalies that cause confusion and agro amongst us consumers.

I don't think I made my point very well, perhaps not at all. The VZW charts are rather incomplete, confusing, and don't appear to be 100% accurate. You might note that the various entries in the matrix include, "Yes", "No", "N/A", "C/I", "Pending", and "Pass". I'd love to know what the difference is between "No", which means "not supported", and "N/A", which indicates "Functionality not supported by the car kit and/or Device over Bluetooth" (huh?). I'd also like to know the difference between "Pass" and "Yes".

Now, re the i730, the vast majority of entries on the chart show "Pending" despite the fact that the i730 has been available since the middle of last year. Yet there are at least two PC members who have the i730 and have been able to pair it with their cars. Further, a RX 330 owner had this to say about the i730: ...When I hit send phonebook on the lexus screen, you can take the I730 and Highlight all the names and hit send. The I730 sent all the names in no time over bluetooth....

Then there's the VZW chart for the V3c. Despite the fact that VZW released the phone a little over a month ago, there are no entries indicating "Pending". Kind of weird, IMHO.

Finally, I find the chart for the 6256i even more bizarre. The phone isn't even available through VZW corporate stores yet the chart matrix is fully complete and, for whatever reason, VZW chose not to cripple the phone (i.e. OPP has not been removed). Still, the chart shows "N/A" under "PB Transfer" not just for the Prius but for every BT car kit. ????

You are right Tag, it is all very confusing and as I have to go to my company and ask them to buy a specific phone for my use, I don't want to look like an idiot if the one I say to buy doesn't work as it should (I won't get a second chance). That is why I am trying to get specific answers and I do appreciate all your input - thanks.

If you get any more definitive answers - please let me know.

I wish some from Toyota reviewing this forum would step up and answer definitively.
I have an Audiovox SMT5600 (with Cingular) and I can only transfer one phone # at a time, not the whole PB at once. Could not find any info on the Cingular site similar to Verizon's (albeit confusing table).

You could try posing your question on HoFo in one of the appropriate fora. For starters, try the following:

    Hi Tag and all,

here is an interesting quote I received from an enquiry to Toyota:

    Dear Mr. McMurray

Thank you for your recent query regarding bluetooth compatible phones for your new Prius. Firstly we apologise for the delay in responding however after much discussion regarding a brand that would give you all the features that you desire etc. we have been advised that the Sony Ericcson range would meet your needs. Now, as to which model within the Sony range we are unable to recommend one over the other.

We are sorry that we cannot be more specific in this area of expertise.

I think that's a good answer in terms of full functionality with the Prius as most (if not all) SEs appear to have the capability to transfer the entire phonebook to the car in one procedure. I bought an SE T68i off ebay and it works great for PB transfers. Of course, I can't use it for anything else since my carrier is Verizon.

I suppose the ultimate decision depends on your carrier. In that regard, I believe the vast majority of SE models are GSM so you can pretty much cross them off the list if your carrier uses CDMA (unless you're willing to switch carriers).

I have a 06 Prius, Package 7 and have no problems pairing with my i730. If you select AutoConnect, it re-establishing pairing within seconds of entering car and powering up the Prius. Sound quality is pretty good, but not great.

Transfering my i730 phone book has not been as smooth. When attempting to transfer my entire PB, I get a transmission failure message on the Prius. If I open a specific number on the i730 and perform a individual transfer, it works successfully. I read in another thread that there are some issues with ()'s and -'s. (Although my successful single number transfers have ()'s and -'s)

Since I have Active Sync'd my i730 contacts with Outlook, I plan on trying the entire PB transfer from the Laptop/Outlook to the Prius soon (understand that works)

    I have an '05 Prius #6.

I just recently bought a Dell Axim X51v (with bluetooth and wi-fi built in). I was trying to see if I could use it (instead of my HUGE 16" Sony Vaio laptop w/D-Link BT USB Adapter) to transfer my contacts to my car. I did have to purchase a cheap program from Handango (my particular Windows Mobile 5.0-based PDA, even though it has bluetooth, can't send contacts or PIM data via bluetooth. It supports IR only). You can get this program from Handango at http://www.handango.com/PlatformProductDet...183981&R=183981.

That program does what it says and the Prius accepts the transfer; unfortunately there is no way to remove the punctuations and spaces from the phone #'s (xxx) xxx-xxxx on the Dell PDA. Outlook also has the ability to transfer via bluetooth if a laptop is used, but it also insists to keep the phone numbers with these punctuation marks.

I still ended up using the laptop method with Outlook first to organize my contacts (which is what I use mainly for PIM and Emails) then I transfer it to a comma delimited file, open it in excel, so some more sorting and organizing, plus remove the punctuation marks by using the find/replace feature (enter the punctuation mark you want to replace in the find, and leave the replace field blank. Use a space after ")" so it'll remove the space from the number also. If that works right your phone #'s will look like xxxxxxxxxx instead of (xxx) xxx-xxxx. I then save that file still in the comma delimited format, and import it into Outlook Express. I then can transfer the contacts to the car using the laptop method at http://priuschat.com/index.php?showtopic=6017.

Hopefully someone else has found a way to transfer the contacts via a Windows Mobile 5.0 Pocket PC without the punctuation marks.
