Hi everyone! I'm new here & I'm LOVING my new car. I want to thank everyone here for all the great posts and great info!
I was successful in deactivating my reverse beeps and seatbelt beeps following the guide using my laptop, putty, and a USB ODB2 cable. That was a breeze! Thanks again for that!
My question to all the experts on here: Is it possible to keep the DRL's on even at night? Is there a set of commands I can send to the ECU to achieve this?
I know it is not an option listed in the manual, but I was just wondering.
I realize that the car has OEM halogen fog lamps, but I really don't like how they look in conjunction with the LED headlamps. The DRL's look GREAT! I just want them to work when the Headlamps are on....

...also, if not, is there an LED bulb replacement that would be bright enough to exchange with the Halogen Fog lamps?

    TIA!!

Not that I'm aware of, the DRLs go off once the headlights are on by default. The LED bulbs that replace the fog lamp bulbs that I've seen are no where near bright enough to put out the same amount of light. Someone on here did it, with pictures, and while the color looks good they just don't have enough power.

On cars with DRL in the headlights rather than dedicated DRLs, they come on at 50% power. So, yeah, they won't provide enough illumination to possess an advantage.

I have 2012 Prius and I was thinking of the same thing, to have DRL on with head lights.
I have solid electrical background and I think this is pretty easy to do, I even started figure out how to, so here is what we need to do:
connect DRL relay coil to headlight relay coil, so when your headlight relay is on it will activate DRL relay and have them all ON.

If you open relay/fuse box under the hood you will find DRL relay on the bottom of the box, towards the front of the car.
All I have to do is find the low beam headlight relay and connect coils(run wire between positive of the H-Lamp relay and positive of the DRL relay coils).
One note: you have to use diod between relay coils, so if you turn just the DRL, they stay on without the headlights. you want power to flow only one way from the headlight relay to DRL relay but not back.
also if you wan to have an option not to run headlights and DRL together you can always install switch in the cabin that brakes the wire I was talking about.

Now the question: where is the low beam headlight relay on 2012 prius???

    thanks

    Never did.
YOu can probably do that by going magor rewiring, but once I go to the dealer for service, and they see something like that, my warrenty out of the window.
I hope there is easy way of doing this. Some kind of a jumper, fuse or something.

    ANYONE???

The DRLs don't have a cutoff to reduce glare to oncoming drivers, so it would be inconsiderate to have them on at full brightness at night. That is why the OEM led DRLs are reduced in brightness at night on cars equipped with them like the European vehicles.

Couldn't you just cut the wires going into the drls.. Use the fog light switch and harness and connect it to that to get the same effect? Just always leave the fogs on?

Yah .. I hate messing with the own relays.. Sometimes they are controlled by an ecu.. Easier just to bypass it..

if you cut wires to DRL, you turn them in to the fog lights, they will not work as DRL anymore, and you need to add fog switch and relay, to much work.

Anyone with work around the DRL to have them as DRL and fogs? Looking for simple fix...

Like I post it before, once you turn headlights, power to DRL relay is completely shot down, completely, to the coil and power leg of the relay. Something under dash probably another relay desables that under hood DRL relay.
Anyone has under dash relay diagram?

^ you could always just leave them on ALL the time.. Drl during the day time.. Fogs at night.. What's the difference?

In order to have the DRLs on during the day & at night, u just need to remove the 12v + wire on the connector near the bumper & connectivity to a 12v power source when in ready mode.

I don't think that the DRLs are bright enough to cause unwanted glare at night to be a problem.

    hmmm, interesting idea.
Ill look in to that. I would like this fogs to be fused and all, but still.
I can just go to the relay box under the hood, and jump this DRL power wire from the relay to the READY power and call it good.
    Hmm, test time..

SO went under the hood, was looking for 12vdc power during ready mode and did not find one.
All of the fuses always under power.
All of the relays inside of that fuse box are not related to the ACC mode.

I would like to tap off of the power that headlights or parking lights working, but cant find any.
