So the other day i was just listening to my music at a volume level somewhere around 30-35 when i noticed this weird distortion coming from the driver side door speaker. I leaned in closer and realized it was blown. I was really worried about my warranty since i installed an aftermarket subwoofer and amp (car is a lease) but i called in and Toyota said it is covered under warranty. I will be going in to the dealer in a few days and they will take a look at it (they said about an hour) and will determine what the cause is and if it qualifies for the warranty and what not. Then they will have to order the parts. Anyways, im really upset since i only have about 4500 miles on the car. I also have some arguments prepared for the case that they do not replace it for free. If they blame it on my setup (Installed Alpine Type R 10" Subwoofer! | PriusChat) ill just let them know that its actually wired into the passenger side door speaker and has nothing to do with the driver side speaker. And also, having a subwoofer eliminates my need to drive up the bass eq and volume on the stereo, so therefore they actually saw less wear than they would have without the subwoofer.

i will update with more information once i go into the dealer.

it wouldn't surprise me if they try anything to get out warranty work. IMO you should have put it back to stock before bringing it in. This might count negatively towards you when you turn it in.

Basic 6.5" speakers are very cheap if its not covered, but might not hurt to pull the subs and amp out for a day while you take it in for warranty.

What volume were you at when you actually blew the speaker????

I have a word of the day for you...Tinnitus!
It's caused by excessive noise at loud excessive levels with no hearing protection!
Yes, music counts as noise, no matter what type, Gospel to cRAP!
I have it, it's really a bitch. I blame myself, I did it to myself. When you get older you will figure it out.

I was wondering this myself - I regularly listened to my factory system on Max Volume (64) and never blew a speaker. Regarding the Tinnitus - I am already noticing a reduction in my hearing (subs in cars for the last 13 years, and going to concerts/raves every weekend for the same time period), but I am banking on technology to save me when I am a little bit older. They already have ear drum replacement - so im going to enjoy the loud music now, and worry about the hearing later. :)

You will just blow it again unless you leave your audio system stock.

Sorry, it has been a while haha. They ended up fixing it for free and I still had the subwoofer setup in the car. No problem, it wasn't due to the setup so everything was under warranty.
