In an earlier thread (http://priuschat.com/index.php?showtopic=13328&hl=), I posted pictures of the '06 diagnostic menus. Someone else had requested shots of the '06 Nav Voice Command help screens, to see what commands may have been answered.

As it is getting late, I am going to dump these on here with less detail that I put with the '06 diagnostics menu pics. However, what is interesting is that VERY little detail on two major new areas of voice commands is given in the '06 Nav Owner's Manual, but can be seen in these screens. These new improvements are:

    1) Voice input of a Nav destination (Maybe this is why the Override button in the '04/'05 diagnostic menu is missing -- its not needed)

    2) Voice dialing (by name or digits) via Bluetooth.

Detailed commands are in the pictures. I tried the Voice input of a destination. It works really well, although to keep you from looking at the screen, they have the computer voice repeat ALL of the on-screen instructions, which is tedious after you get the hang of it. It is still, however, more convenient than having to stop, and MUCH safer than trying to type while you drive (BTW, I find having a QWERTY keyboard layout as an option in the '06 is not any easier than the ABCD... layout, since you really cannot touch type on the screen).

So, to enter a destination, while in motion, via voice recognition, you start by pressing the Voice button, wait for the "Say the command after the beep" intro and the Beep, and then say "Address". You are then prompted first for the state, then the city, and finally the street address. In each of these cases, if you say something that doesn't exist (like New York City when you selected Arizona for the state), your input is rejected ("No such city found" would be the likely response, for example, for NYC in AZ). Lastly, you enter a street address by saying the digits. It is not always accurate. While entering "110" as "one one zero" it thought I said "one West zero" and said there was no such address on the street. It gives you another chance, however, if it rejects what you said the first time. After you get an address that is acceptible entered, you simply say "Enter destination" (or, from the Help screen, "Add destination", etc. ...).

Sorry, I am running out of time to post. So, no more details for now. More as I can explore the car further.

PS- None of this is explained very well in the '06 Nav manual. You just need to learn the valid voice commands from the in-car Help, and then play with it to figure it all out.

PPS- How did anyone figure out all the "unofficial" voice commands that are NOT included in the Help screen (like "I'm hungry")? I wonder if there are any new ones in the latest model.

PPS- Where there were MANY screen shots to take (POIs and the various "XX degrees" commands) and I doubted there were any differences, I did not bother to take pictures of ALL of the commands.

    RonM: Thanks.

Coincidentally, I was just paging through the NAV help screens less than an hour before I saw your posting. It would be great if somebody transcribed these into text or a hierarchical diagram that could be printed ;)

Thanks Ron. Previously we knew there were new voice commands for setting NAV destination and dialing the telephone. From your efforts it looks like the new voice commands are:

    Set Destination by nearest POI:
    > Nearest + (POI category)
    > Show list

    Set Destination by Address:
    > Address
    > Change state
    > Change city
    > Change street
    > Next Candidate
    > Change house number

    Telephone dial
    > Dial by Name
    > Dial by Number

    Telephone Dial by name tag
    > (Name)
    > Next Candidate
    > Dial

    Telephone Dial by number
    > (any number)
    > Correction
    > Delete
    > Dial

There were many '05 commands missing from your lists, but I believe they are still there. Attached find the previous editions of the voice command lists.

    Thanks!

    Wayne,

Thanks. I assume that many of the commands (like "I'm hungry") are not formally documented, but nonetheless work in the car. I didn't show all of the POI-related commands, as they were very repetitive and I doubt they have changed much.

Thanks to all who compiled this information. After I turned off the annoying "voice recognition guidance" and learned the proper voice commands, I quickly learned that the voice recognition is -- by far -- the COOLEST feature of the car.

Does this eliminate the annoying voice command prompt on the '06's? If so, how does one do this. I am still digging through the manual and haven't found anything like this.

    Thanks!
