Is there a limit to the number of songs in each playlist?

I would take it back to Best Buy and return it. Tell them it came without the cable and exchange it for one that has the cable. I got mine from Best Buy and it came with the right cables.

Here is a link to the "Installation Supplement for Toyota" manual from the densionusa.com site:

    http://www.densionusa.com/support_files/ic...ment_toyota.pdf

On page 2 is a picture of what should come in the box. It sounds like you are missing item 4, which is the toyota cable.

I bet someone moved their ice>Link from one kind of car to a Toyota car and swiped the cable instead of buying a new one. None of the boxes at my Best Buy were sealed either, even though the non-toyota versions were sealed.

You will also need a vehicle specific mounting bracket. The ice>Link cradle is meant to attach to such a bracket and the instructions tell you to buy one.

I got the center mount one from proclipusa.com

I don't think so. The manual doesn't say there is one. It does, however, say that the track number is limited to 2 digits and will be truncated if it's greater than 2 digits. To me that says that track 101 would appear as track 1 (or maybe track 2 if track 0 is not a valid track number). So that statement in the manual implies to me that the only limitation is in the displayed track number.

I do know that the track number is more for show than anything else, which would also make me think that it would allow greater than 99 songs. For instance, if you have the RAND button pushed on the MFD, the ice>Link will randomly skip through your playlist every time you press the next track button. Howerver, the track numbers still increment 1, 2, 3, 4, etc. For instance, if you start playing a playlist with the RAND feature on, the first song in the playlist seems to always be the first song it plays and it displays as track 1. However, if you press the next track button, then a random song will play next. The new song might really be track 77 in your playlist, but it will show up as track 2 on the MFD. If you turn off the RAND feature while that song is playing, then the track number on the MFD will switch to the real track number of 77.

As promised. I finished the install in about an hour, longer than the 1/2 hour I thought it would have taken me. I am by no means an experienced car audio installer, just the opposite. I did the install by following VAIS Tech AIS Install Guide . The installation is well documented there. I highly recommend you take a look at that before you attempt to take apart your dash, which IMO there is no need for.

Maybe this will help you out in terms of which harness you may be missing.

Haven't really had a change to fiddle with the iPod yet, but I can tell you that it does work. I would recommend buying from: http://www.enfigcarstereo.com/

I bought the ice>Link for $160 (NO sales tax/FREE shipping). The sound quality seems perfect from the short time that I previewed it. The song title and artist is display on the screen as promised. The only issue I have so far, as Marlin stated, is that there is a lag in the controls. Other than that, its looking good. BTW, I didn't order the cradle, but got the cable connection instead, so I could leave my iPod out of sight in the glove compartment.

Can someone explain to me why the VAIS Tech unit is much more expensive than the Dension unit? I've combed over the specs, and I think they do the same exact thing?

So, did you put the cradle in the glove compartment like the VAIS install guide said?

If you did, doesn't that prevent you from conveniently using about half the features of the ice>Link?

From the MFD, you are limited to 5 playlists, and no artist/album searches. To acess the other playlists, you need to be able to see the iPod screen. To do artist/album search and selection, you need to use the iPod controls.

I still think mounting the cradle on the dash makes the most sense, and where I mounted mine, only 4 inches of cable sticks out of the dash and it's hidden behind the mounting bracket.

Taking the rest of the dash off is really not hard. The dash panel you pulled off is one of the hardest to remove. The vent panel next to the driver's door is equally difficult, but really not that bad. The rest of them just pop off. It goes back together just as easily.

I'll take a picture of my install tonight and post it. I think it's a much better overall solution than sticking it into the glove box where you can't access all of the features.

Well, the 2006 supports multiple CD changers, but doesn't recognizez the MD changer emulation on the VAIS unit. Mine refused to work until I switched it form MD to CD emulation. See attached picture. So the ice>Link should work just fine with the factory 6 disc changer.

The Vais Tech can emulate a MD Changer or CD Changer. The 2004/05 Prius can only have one CD changer so if you have a changer, the ice>Link isn't an option.
The Vais has an aux in and can have, I believe, 99 playlists. I never go beyond 12 personally.
I know for a fact that the Vais works with the Toyota XM radio and the iPod2Car doesn't. I'm interested to see if the ice>Link works with XM Radio.
The Vais SoundLinQ (SLI) has a built-in ground loop isolator.
The ice>Link plus seems like a great option. The more competition the more choices we will have.

On the ride home I realized the sound was only coming out of the driver's side (front and rear). I could have sworn I was getting sound from both driver and passenger sides when I was testing the unit right after the install.

Marlin, do you think the harness could have come loose from behind the headunit in the couple hours it sat in the parking lot and 15mins of very light driving? The sound coming out of the left side is perfect. Again, I know very little about car audio, but my first thought is that if the left side is getting sound, it probably isn't a loose harness. Any ideas?

Also, in the User Manual, it shows that there should be 7 user menu items, however my user menu only has 4.

Mine only has 4 menu options and my manual (what little there is of it) doesn't list any that I don't see. There are a few additional menu options in the Setup submenu, is that what you're thinking about?

I'm not sure what your left only audio problem is. I suppose it could be a loose connector. The locking clip on the black connector that plugs into the ice>Link from the radio broke on my as I tried to insert it, but it seems like a tight fit anyhow. The one to the cradle seemed like a looser fit, but still seemed tight enough.

Here are some pictures of how I mounted the cradle using the ProClip mount. The angle of the one picture from the front makes it look like it would block your view of the dash board warning lights, but it doesn't. From eye level, the top of my wife's iPod Mini doesn't appear to be any higher than the top of the MFD hood.

From what I can tell, this product will not work with the NAV/6 disc changer package. I called Dension and asked them. They said it WILL NOT WORK in no uncertain terms.

Does everyone here who has the Ice-Link not have NAV/6 disc changer or does it work and Dension doesn't admit it?

BTW - Dension said to check back in 1 month. They are feverishly working to support the NAV/6 Disc configuration.

The 04/05 Prius doesn't support two CD Changers, but does support an MD Changer. ice>Link emulates a CD Changer so there is a conflict.
The 06 Prius appears to support two CD changers, but not the MD Changer. There appears to be some changes. The Vais doesn't display text in the 06.

I guess I should have paid more attention to your post. I thought this only applied to '05 since people are saying that '06 can support 2 CD changers. Well I installed the iceLink yesterday and it doesn't work in my '06. It powers up and the Dension screen appears on the iPod but it mostly doesn't interact with the car. If I press CD 6 then I get the iceLink control screen but I can't do anything else. There's no sound and no other controls work. The iceLink also blocks the in-dash CD changer.

I had an iceLink in my last car and liked it. I'm hoping they are close to making this work. I'll contact them and see if it's good enough to release for testing. If not then I'll have to look for another solution.

Dension replied that they have put me on the list to be notified when they have a solution. Since the VAIS units also aren't fully functional with the '06 I guess I'm SOL for the moment.

I want the MFD and steering wheel control but at least I got the aux-in so I have music.

OK, I ordered one from enfig..., it's the same as the one from Best Buy so it doesn't match up with the cables that are in the back of the stereo. It's a single CD player with am/fm and enfig said it would fit. Now I don't understand your directions at all, that could be part of my problem. Can I ask someone to please clarify. Please dumb it down as much as possible 'cos apparenlty this is completely over my head.
    Points to consider:

From the picture it looks like nothing connects to the radio or the harnesess (to me, but thanks for the pic, it helps). The Vais instructions aren't helping either, since I have no indication as to what gets plugged in behind the tune button in the back of the radio.

    Please help!!!

Thanks for your patience with me.

Has anyone tried the Dension-120 in a 2004 Prius with factory radio. Does this radio have a CD changer input?

Yes. All the late model Toyota radios have a 'changer' port. I rather like to call it an aux port, as it can be used for other properly behaved devices other than CD changers. However, many devices are not properly behaved, and won't work in conjunction with other devices daisy-chained on the port, or when other devices with same or similar IDs exist.

Now earlier model radios had the port too from what I understand, but the plug was a different size, so Lori, you might have the wrong harness. That, or you are trying to connect to the radio power/speaker connections, rather than the otherwise empty aux port socket on the HU.

It looks like you went for the short instructions and didn't actually pull the Prius radio out to be able to see what's behind it.

Are you saying that you only received a single cable, and not two cables that mate together?

You should have received two cables with the Dension ice>Link. I bought mine from Best Buy, and it had both cables. As the package contents picture from the post you responded to shows, there's one cable that plugs into the ice>Link. This cable comes with every ice>Link, regardless of the kind of car you are connecting it to. The other cable is a car specific adapter. One end of it plugs into the long dension ice>Link cable, and the other end plugs into your radio.

What are the picture's you posted showing exactly? Was the big connecter plugged into the Prius radio and you unplugged it?

The car specific adapter has both a male and female connector on the Car Radio end of the cable. The male connecter plugs into your radio, the female connector is used to plug in additional accessories, such as an XM radio.

If you actually remove the radio, you will see an empty small jack on the right side of the radio, next a bigger jack that already has something plugged into it. This is where you plug in the ice>Link cable. Attached is a picture of the back of the radio.

Whooot!!!!!!!!! That was the info that I needed. I was assuming that the speakers plugged into the icelink & the icelink into the radio. Now my Prius rocks and so do you. Thank you very much for your detailed info.

Sorry I didn't get back to you earlier, but I was away from the Prius and the computer for a couple weeks. Glad your install worked out ok.

I'm still having issues with my Ice Link not sending out any sound on the passenger side speakers. The Dension tech thought it might have been a defective docking cable, and sent out a replacement. That didn't solve the problem. I'm hoping they will swap out the entire Ice Link. I'll just have to wait and see.

    UPDATE: (2/1/06)

Finally got around to reinstalling the Icelink. Sound quality is great. But since you can not access SONG/ARTIST/ALBUM from the display, having the Ipod connected is much akin to having a 6-disc cd changer b/c you can only play off of 6 playlists. Of course when you go to update the music, you update the playlists and don't have to burn a whole new set of CDs.

OVERALL, I am very pleased with the Dension Ice Link. Easy to install too (from a non tech-savy point of view).
