I am one of those former insight owners. This is exactly correct from my experience.

Man what's done is done. We all make mistakes at certain point in our life. Just get over it. The more you think about it the worse you are going to feel and it will not make any good for you anyway. You wouldn't keep your Honda forever anyway and you would sell it sooner or later. Just learn a lesson from this story and make a right decision from this experience. All the best!

Yeah, I hear ya. I'm pretty much focusing on getting the PC now. However, I have an acquaintance from the insight forums close to my house that just got a volt. I'm gonna check that out; those things have crazy interiors.

If you want to get a chevy volt or any other plugin hybrid you need to evaluate your commute conditions. If the round trip of your typical normal day is within the range of the charge (or at least you can recharge the battery at work) then it would make sense to buy a higher cost plugin IMHO. Othervwice I would go for a regular hybrid.

I have a 25 mile round trip work commute and most of my typical round trip destinations are just within the volts max EV range. That is presuming optimal battery conditions during late spring thru early fall. However, I'm also a single guy that drives 12-15k miles per year with no mortgage who is accustomed to a tiny car like the original insight. Either vehicle would likely be a good call.

If I settle on keeping my next vehicle for a while (greater than 6 years) I may be better off with the PC3. It's a hard call because I can get two tax credits for the Volt: 7500 from the feds and 3500 from the state. A tank of fuel in the volt (even the premium it requires) would last me a while.

Long term; I do not know. The EV technology, especially in the volt is evolving rapidly and in a couple of model years; the costs will start to drop. With those tax credits and the savings in gas, the Volt is an interesting possibility despite my annual income being lower than the cost of the volt, hehehe. Present financial goof aside, I"m generally very frugal.

Hmm, $19800 for a slightly used PC3 or $39k minus rebates for a 2013 Volt.

Yep, that's a tough decision though. I guess the best for you will be to try both of these cars at the same day and in the same driving conditions which you normally have on a day to day basis, and see which one you love more. The difference between these two cars (including all tax credits) is still almost $10K. If I were you and I loved both of the cars equally I would ask myself only one question, whether I will save $10K owning Volt compared to Prius. If I would save then I would probably go with Volt, if not then I would go with Prius cause otherwise it will be an extra money spent which you will never get back in savings, unless you are ready to pay more for Volt just because you satisfied with Volt more than the Prius.

Just an FYI...a salvage title does mean that it was totaled. My husband has worked in insurance for years...only reason I knew this. :)
