Tint Reco for Winter Gray PIP ??

    Hey guys,

    We are getting our Winter Gray PIP windows tintent on Monday. here is what I'd like to achieve:

    - Rear hatch: dark enough that you can't see in easily and see objects stored in the hatch, still light enough that it doesn't make driving difficult

    - Sides: Medium dark, still light enough that its not hard to see people inside the car. I don't like "limo" tint as I think it looks tacky.

    - Overall: dark, but "classy" and looks good with Winter Gray

    Can anyone recommend what tint level to ge to accomplish this? I did do an archive search, but there are so many threads that I couldn't get to my answer.

    Ive done all of my cars for the past 10 years with 20% (limo) on the rear and 35% all side windows

    Here is a picture , because of the difference in light through the darker rear window vs the light through the large windshield, sometimes it looks like the side rear windows in the rear are darker than the front side windows but all sides are 35% and the rear is 20% prius frnt qtr pic.JPG rt side prius wheels.JPG

    WGM PiP here too..

    I went with 20% on the rear hatch glass (the big one) and 35% on all of the other windows.

    To me, 35% on the rear hatch didnt seem dark enough to obscure the contents in the rear. The 35% on the hatch small window blends with the factory-tinted glass. Its not enough to make it the same shade as the 20% on the hatch, but from the outside, it looks the same.

    Wow, that really does look darker in the back. How is visibility backing up or out the rear view?

    15% to 20% is about as light as I would go if you want privacy in the rear. I have 15% on mine and I can still see inside if the sun is shining directly on the window. In all other conditions you can't see inside. With dark interior you can use 20%-25%. Lighter interior tends to make tint appear lighter.

    OK, we had them done yesterday and are very happy with the results. I am not sure of the %, but we went "medium" on all the side windows. On the back, we went "dark" on the main hatch panel, but "medium" on the lower small glass that is perpendicular to the ground.

    It was explained to me (not sure of accuracy) that gthe smaller panel is tinted more darkly form the factory, so we went only medium on this one. The outcome is that it looks uniform in color with the large hatch glass. Not sur eif this is only due to it not getting direct sunlight due to it being shaded by the rear spoiler, but it loosk good and is easy to see out of looking backwards.

    I will post photos once I clean the car up. Am also installing ct200h wheels on it today. :)

    I really like 3m crystalline. it comes in 90%, 70%, 60%, 50%, 35%, etc. and all of them block out most of the IR from the sun.

    I have Wincos in the fron and cr-60% sides. I think its the perfect darkness for me, as I was concerned about blocking the heat more so than the light.

    I see that you already have it tinted, but I've been very happy with Huper Optik Ceramic in 50% for the fronts and 30% for the rears.

    i envy you guys, driving in NYC with front tints is automatic ticket nowdays.
    i can only do rear hatch window, not the sides :( poor ny tint law

    Go with 50% It's everything you want!Tint is a must have with a Prius, Really helps with the AC,Have the dealer do it if they have someone that does it for them,Not a big fan of the darker rear side windows.Enjoy! PRIUS TINT.jpg

    LORD VADER, YOUR PRIUS HAS ARRIVED.

    Thanks for posting! I'd black plastidip all the badges, side mirrors, lugs, center caps, keyhole and lower center spoiler to continue the theme. Dark on dark is not usually my thing, but I like what you've done.

    ockevin, looks amazing! I'm getting mine done today here in NorCal and am contemplating between 35% all around vs 35% on the sides/20% in the rear or 35% in the front and rear sides and 20% for the rear hatch.

    What brand tint did you go with? Have it down to Suntek CXP or Wincos..
