Hi! We went looking at a couple Priuses (Prii?) in the San Francisco area the other day, and love them. They're a little on the higher end of our price range so we're fine with the base level car, but the dealer told us that in this area (in fact, he said all of California), Toyota only sells packages #3, #5 and up. What's the easiest way to find out where they'd sell the base model or package 1? Does Toyota maintain some kind of list, or is it dealer preference?

update -- I see from other posts that the 'buyatoyota' site limits your selection based on zip code, so you can figure it out that way. (unfortunately I'd have some work to do to find a place with package 1 available.)

when I enter my zip, the default is 'Option Combination A', which is like having no package. the dealer said you have to get at least package 1 (which isn't available here, so #3). is this true, or can you get a car with no option package?

You can try going to http://www.tmsbuyatoyota.com/home.aspx and click on the "Build Your Toyota" link. When you enter your ZIP it'll only give you the packages available in your area. Changing the ZIP will show you what others can get.

Toyota divides the country into regions and then "tailors" the options for each region. In my region (Southeast) the web site shows all 8 options are possible, but restricted availbility actually limits the dealers to 5 packages. I'm buying my car in Evansville, IN because the Chicago region (MN, WI, MI, IN, IL) is producing a large quantity of option 8 cars and the dealers are selling at a no haggle MSRP. Other regions that I'm aware of include the Gulf and Northeast. Pick an area you want to visit, plug in the correct zipcode and send a few quote requests. My message was White/tan OP#8, floor mats, MSRP, no dealer charges. It worked, I'll take posession of my car in 2 weeks. Good Luck.
