Does anyone know if you can replace the 2005 audio components with the 2006 components that support mp3 audio cd's?

Like how much are we talking?
If so, then the best options are to work with devices off of the aux port ?

well, you'd have to replace the head unit, which is over $1000, you'd have to replace the MFD because the connectors are different in the 06, which is over $2000, plus likely the ECUs don't have the capacity to run the 06 stereo... yeah not cheap. my husband's a tech over at the toyota dealer... when he got his hands on the wiring diagrams for the 06 he spent a bit of time trying to figure a way to do this, but it's pretty prohibitive in the sheer number of things you have to replace. and of course, if your head unit "breaks" they won't be replacing it with an 06 version system either (i asked him for the heck of it )

check out the "audio and electronics" part of the forum- lots of reviews of different products that people here have tried. good luck :)

Thanks for the update, and for explaining that in more detail so that I can understand more accurately. Yes, I have been reading some of the stickies & such in this audio & electronics forum. It's unfortunate that the firmware alone that is in the cd player (and or other related components) cannot be updated to support mp3 cd's... it would be sweet if there were a means for the unit to read a cd in such a way that the internal firmware could be updated, in the same way that such updates can be done for many dvd players and such.
