Protecter Plus glass etching

    The big day, picking up my Prius from the dealer, doing the paperwork. On my dealer invoice was a charge for something called "Protecter Plus" vehicle tracing system, I forget the amount, several hundred dollars. I told them it was not something I asked for, and they quickly produced another invoice without the charge. My car still carries the stickers on the side windows, a good thing if it acts further as a deterent. Only information I could find on the web talks about etched numbers registered against VIN number to deter professional thieves. I'm from Canada and this is a Canadian company, don't know if there are similiar add-on scams in the states. Pretty slimey, eh?

    It is a total scam. We just bought two Prii... one off the lot that already had the etched glass... with a sticker price of $295 which is pure profit for the dealer. I ended up paying $500 under MSRP for the car... but the useless etched glass reduced my savings down to $205 under MSRP.

    For the second car... our deal was MSRP without a discount... and no etched glass. They did not etch it... but to my delight they dealer discounted the car to $205 under MSRP to match the price of the first Prius.

    I saw it here too... except they wanted like 625.00 or something! ..

    They think up all kind of pure profit things for your liking?....
    Alot of people actually have the money and don't care.... I guess they figure they might as well ask.........

    that applique sticker for the bumper is only 65.00, but that too is a stinkin expensive sticker!
