I'm in Montreal, Quebec and have my car since 3 wks now. After first fill up 39 mpg and according to score car gives averaging only 41. Really disappointed. Have read alot on this forum and feel I'm driving it properly. Have not checked tire pressure and have 16 inch wheels. All city driving, stop and go traffic, but this was the reason I bought this car. Love the car but am not impressed so far with the mileage, but have not hit 500 miles yet so maybe after break-in will get better. Any advice is welcome. Thanks

No car gets its EPA rated fuel economy in freezing temps. Hybrids are especially prone to seeing large drops in fuel economy because the numbers are so high. A 10% drop looks much larger at 50mpg than at 20mpg. Montreal is seeing 30-40F temps. I would expect a huge drop in mpg. Rain makes this drop even worse.

We got our Simon (Summer Rain, Prius C 2) in March and we've put in about 7,000 miles since then.

In August (can't see the data prior to that) we were getting close to 60 MPG (as per trip computer, so more like 58.5 MPG in reality, since there seems to be ~ 1.5 MPG difference between computer and actual calculation). There's been a steady linear downward trend since then, culminating with our current 41.3 MPG in this last tank.

My daily commute is less than 2 miles each way, and it's gotten quite cold here (we live in Wisconsin), some mornings with temperatures in the teens. With the combination of the low T's and short distances, I was averaging MPG in the low 20's, and was very concerned about Simon's overall health. Once I figured to turn off the heater/set it in the low 60's, MPG went up to the low 30's for the same short commute.

Last night I took a longer drive (7 miles, it's a pretty small town), the temperature was in the 40's and I averaged 54 MPG. I'm assuming nothing is really wrong with Simon, except for the temperature drop and short drives.

Wait, <2 miles commute? I understand that temperatures may be cold some mornings (I live in North Dakota so I hear you on that one), but would it be possible to ride your bike to work even in the winter time? I normally do not ride my bike when the sidewalks are ice covered, but snow covered isn't as bad. If the winter allows for decent sidewalk conditions, despite cold temperatures, I would strongly advocate riding your bicycle (a very common theme in my posts :)). I'm not an eco nut but everyone could use some exercise in there lives.

Over 10,000 km in my Prius C, the fuel consumption is 4.9l/100km which translates to about 57/48 mpg (imp/US) - pump fuel quantity not computer. Australian spring here so limited use of heater and aircon.

I've had my 'c' three 8 months , for the life of the car it was 53.8 for the first 7 months , then I hit the wrong trip & 0 it was gone. For the last three fillups before it started get cold in the mornings I got 57 mpg now it is around 53 or less.
Mpg gauge accurate, no , it was always tell me I am getting about 1 mpg or a little more than I get to calculated mpg.
There are somethings about the car I am disapointed in but the mpg is not one of them.

It usually reads 2-4 mpg better than actual. Here is my spreadsheet. Across the bottom of each section you'll see the overall mileage driven, overall gallons, average mpg of both, price per mile, and total spent on gas. You'll see for one tank I only made 45.54 mpg this was a highway trip at 75mph and rims 13lbs each.

My first fill up gave me enough information to calculate my mpg as 55.1, the computer indicated 58.0 mpg. I'd say 30% highway, 70% city driving.

Hi guys, first post ever on these forums. I got my Prius C Two on Saturday the 19th of January, 2013 (for quick reference when this post is old). It will be my work car, as I am a courier by trade. I run about 400 miles a day, 5 days a week.

I'm currently at about 420 miles on the odometer, so the car is still not broken in yet. I've been driving it as efficiently as I can without bugging other drivers (to experiment with the mileage), while keeping my speed varied between 50 and 57 mph on the highway for the break-in process. Using this system, with about 30% city 70% highway driving, I'm running about 65 mpg average. I hope this improves when it's all broken in!

    This is really

That's really good MPG. I'm not sure if it will get better. I started off only with 40-55mpg now I average 45-65.

It's based on how you drive too

I have had mine since the end of November. I get about 44 city, 48 highway, unless I really pay attention to the mpg. I have had 50 mpg for a few trips, but I was definitely trying hard to get there. I live on a hill in a city (lots of traffic lights), And most of my driving is in the city. I keep reading about what to do to improve the numbers so hopefully I can keep pushing it up. In any case, I am thrilled, but I would love to start getting 50 regularly!

Just got mine a couple weeks ago - my third Prius. I love it so far, despite the cantankerousness of Entune. I love how when you fill up it automagically asks you to set the fuel price for the smugometer.

Is "smugometer" the technical term for it? :ROFLMAO: *sigh* Can't wait to own one... With my current commute however (I live only 0.1 miles from work) it will be a while before I consider buying one just because of my circumstances (quicker to walk than to warm up the car and drive ). Heck, pretty much all of the necessary commuting places are within 2 miles so I probably will walk or bike to those places. Circumstances will likely change in the coming years though, and I am dead set on the c being my next car.

The smugometer is what I call it at least, when it's in "compare my fuel cost/economy" mode as opposed to just "show me my costs" mode. :D
