    Yes... another thread on tires.

It's time to replace my Hankook H727's (195/60R15) on my 06 Prius. While I really liked the Hankooks until the 20,000 miles mark, I noticed that they got progressively noisier over the last 20,000 miles to the point that they became far too noisy for me.

Before changing to the Hankooks, I had Nokian WR G2's and before that Nokian WR's (I liked the WR's better).

I live in southern CT, so one of my criteria is decent snow/ice performance (but I'm not concerned about it enough to buy separate snow tires... we don't get that much snow, and when it does snow, everything gets cancelled anyway  ).

After going through hundreds of posts, and a lot of reviews/surveys on Tire Rack and Consumers Reports, as the title says, I am looking at 3 tires (I have also considered the Continentals with EcoPlus, Bridgestone Ecopia 422's, and Michelin Energy Savers).

I'm looking for feedback from people who have any of these 3 tires to help my evaluation.

    Thanks.

If you can get the $70 rebate on the Bridgestones I would buy those. They are less expensive and perform just as well or even a little better than the MXV4. The Defender may be the best option for fuel economy but I doubt it is by much. You will lose mpg with any of these tires vs. the OE models but their price and longevity make them worth the price. They perform much better as well!

Please know that of those three tires I have not read any definitive reviews for snow traction. The Serenity Plus holds the advantage in wet weather and it is the newest design but that doesn't mean it does well in the snow. The EP422 supposedly does great in the snow and offers great fuel economy but its a marshmallow in the curves. LOL

if your tires got noisy, it is usually because of not having the alignment right, and/or not rotating tires regularly. did you rotate the tires at least every 10k? and how often do you get the alignment checked? keep in mind that low end independent shops frequently will not do a complete alignment; they will only set the toe in and might not shim the rear if its out. on Prii, you have to use shims to set the rear toe. so when you see that coupon for an alignment for $20 from joe shmoe's back alley garage or some jive lube oil change franchise, you get what you pay for. sorry i can't help you with your tire choice, but any tires you buy will give you better service if you take care of them.

I agree with the above comment but as tires wear they tend to become noisier as tread wears down.

a little noise is one thing, but when they get annoying, the tread is probably cupping or feathered badly. i see this all the time. benz's are really heavy, and we get these cheap idiots that had to have a benz to impress their friends and neighbors, but they refuse to pay for basic maintenance like alignment. their cars sound like big rigs on the highway.

Thanks F8L. That's the direction I was leaning in. I just put the Bridgestones on the front of my wife's 2010, and will be monitoring that before making my decision (soon if I go with the Bridagestones, to take advantage of the $100 discount at Costco). So far, I'm seeing a 3-4 MPG hit from the Hankooks on her car, but we're just coming up to 1,000 miles.

69shovlhed... I rotate my tires every 7,500 miles. I just had a 4-wheeel alignment done (the first one in 80,000 miles), and everything was within spec. The guy I use has the shop (supposedly with a new state-of-the-art system) that all of the local shops send their work to. He came highly recommended by a mechanic and a body shop that I know and trust. I wish he charged $20... paid $100.
