Yes, I have the 5 min consumption screen, but the mpg is not instant is all I'm saying. I get better response from the eco score screen meter.

Thanks for the info Rob.au and WD0AFQ

What's your trick with the eco score screen? Please share, as the only thing I get is how to say EV below the eco line. Once I pass that line, EV goes away and down goes the mpg.

That's the trick I know, to keep EV on under the eco line. I accelerate in EV as practical, then go right under the PWR line until speed is reached. I try to only use PWR getting onto the freeway or in necessary situations, but I'm not quite there.

After that, I sometimes let go of the gas pedal to get into EV and use if possible. on a good day can be in EV at 45mph, on a downhill of course.

I'm pretty sure if you set the fuel comparison to ZERO (no dollar amount or anything) and then turn to Trip A (instead of normal odo) you will get instant mpg. I'm probably not wording this quite correctly, but someone else on here told me how to do it and that's what I get... instant mpg when viewing Trip A.... regardless of whether I'm on the eco score screen or the energy monitor screen.

This is what I experienced once. I was on the 5-min screen. It shows 99.9 mpg in the instant gauge, so I know I am in EV. But this particular day, I was on the usual stretch of the road where EV only takes me up to 37 mph. but I was doing 45. and still showing full bar on the instant mpg gauge. While maintaining constant pressure on the gas pedal, I quickly flip to ECO savings screen to see if I was in EV... no, I wasn't. It was a hair over the ECO line, and no EV. I quickly went back to the 5-min screen, and it was still showing 99.9 mpg. I press gas pedal a little more, and I am now at about 80 mpg. and I was able to glide this whole stretch doing 45 mph getting 80 to 90 mpg.

So my trick with the 5 min screen now is, accelerate to get going with the flow of traffic (pluse), then glide, and try to find that happy spot where I can cruise with ICE running, while getting 75+mpg on the instant gauge.

I was hoping that many of you that love the ECO score or ECO saving screens would share some of your tricks.

If you haven't watched this video, do so a few times:

Then do a search that includes words like 'warp' and 'stealth'. Don't limit your searches to the c forums, there is a wealth of knowlege in the others. We c owners are generally the least experienced.

Yeah, just ignore everything I wrote... LOL... With a dislocated jaw, the pain has my brain all muddled. I wasn't taking "instantaneous" literally enough and I was thinking of a different car. I'll just go stand in the corner now.

Yep, just as someone mentioned, there is an instant mileage readout. I learn something every day, even at 58 years of age. The only problem I find with this instant bar graph is that I can't look at the eco screen at same time. I like seeing my battery level and whether I am "coasting" or using the brakes as I slow down. Guess I need to start looking at the other screens a little just to see what they will show. With the external Ultra Gauge or SacanGauge I can see what I want, when I want, and don't have to flip through various screens, unless I choose to.
Who ever posted the instructions on the instant mpg readout, thanks.

Uh, what happened to your jaw? Hope you were not trying to tell your husband how to drive your Prius.;)

If only he would punch me in the jaw, then it would be back in place. Long-standing issue, dislocated meniscus in the left jaw. Was treated with a splint 14 years ago, but recent dental work has rendered that splint useless so now I have to go through another diagnosis and fitting. In the meantime, I suffer and take lots of ibuprofen.

ok, I watched the video several times and drove for several days now in the ECO score screen. Yep, it's effective for sure. I especially like monitoring the amount of braking I do. Maximize regen, and minimize use of brake pads.

I got hung up on that screen too because of something I read here. It seems to suit my needs the best.

I like the 5 minute MPG on the dash monitor since it's so easy to see the real-time MPG gauge which almost acts like the energy-monitor or eco screen (ie, you can tell when you're running all IC or all EV etc. just from the MPG gauge). Then I like the energy monitor on the NAV screen.

Personally, I wish that they'd have the current MPG bar always visible like the speedometer and fuel gauge... that's the real reason why I use the 5-min MPG screen. If the current MPG bar was always visible somewhere up on the dash, I'd probably set the rotating screen to the eco-score.

eco score for me. I know when I'm gliding, regen and helps with acceleration and EV use.

    • City driving: eco savings, mainly for the eco meter. Not eco score because I haven't really paid much attention to the score. I'll give it another chance, but for now savings is more useful to me. Maybe I'm just cocky, but I'm pretty sure I've got the hang of how to accelerate, coast and stop, and I don' t like the eco score screen yelling at me because a light turned ren just before I got to it :D
    • Highway driving: 5-minute averages and instantaneous mpg
    • Explaining to/impressing people: energy monitor
My ideal screen would have the eco meter on one half, and instantaneous mpg and 5-minute averages on the other half.

Eco savings set to basic, it gives me the HSI without judging me.
