Remote turn on for an amp

    Guys,
    I read some where, that because you run off of the factory head unit, you don't need to connect the remote turn on wire.

    Have you guys been installing a remote turn on wire, or have you been ignoring that.

    Where do you tap in if you do use one.

    Tap into the 12V power ports or the fusebox.

    By 12v power port you mean the ports that you plug a cell phone charger into, right? The fuse box sounds the easiest, could you give a quick discription on how to these, if you got the time?

    I ust called a place and they quoted me $100 per amp to install, once I found a place that would touch the prius.

    There is a device by Peripheral called an "LVT2" or you can get the combo SVENR which is a high to low converter with the LVT2 built in. Then you simply tap into the factory speaker wires for signal like normal and you'll have a remote turn on switch as well. This way the amp will only turn on with the stereo and not the 12v ignition source.

    So i dug up an old post, but similar situation...
    Just finished installing a powered sub (Kicker 11PT10) using high level inputs (tapped rear speakers). I did not hook up the remote turn-on wire thus I'm using the auto turn-on feature from the speaker wires. Curiously however the amp turns ON with ignition even with the radio OFF. I figured it'd only turn ON when the speakers are recieving a signal when the radio was turned on. What is going on?
    Furthermore if I decided I don't always like having the amp on, where can I tap for a 12V signal to the remote wire that is on ONLY when the radio is on? Oh, 2007 JBL + Nav. There must be a switched 12V going into the JBL amp somewhere...!?
    It sounds great btw. Also finally disconnected the center channel which made a huge improvement!

    Easiest would be to use a switched 12V, like the cigarette-sockets, for power and wire in a switch. Then the amp is on when the car is on, unless you switch off the switch.

    I think it has been determined the stock radio doesn't have a remote-output that we know of, so unless you are going to bypass the speakerinputs on the amp and buy a unit like F8L mentioned to do the high-low conversion for you AND add a remote-output, I don't know a better solution.

    Why the sub-amp is always on even when the radio is not, do not know. Maybe there is signal present on the speaker-outputs. Would be weird, but certainly not impossible (there is 6 volts on both wires-going-to-the-speakers (in any modern headunit) when it is ON, even when the volume is all the way down, somehow this voltage is also present with the headunit OFF (shouldn't be though), or at least the amp seems to think so...).
